Brodeur makes a stop on Sandy Jeannin in tonight's Switzerland - Canada game
You missed a corker if you missed the Canada - Switzerland game tonight. The game went to the first OT in the tournament and first shootout. Canada escaped by the skin of their teeth... Crosby got the lone shoot-out goal for the win while Brodeur made four saves on Swiss shooters. It was a near-run thing for the powerhouse that is supposed to be Team Canada and nearly a replay for the giant-killing Swiss who beat the Canadians in the preliminaries during the 2006 Olympics.
If they gave out three stars for Olympic games then Jonas Hiller, the Swiss goalie who plays for the Anaheim Ducks, would be the hands-down choice for first star. The man was a veritable wall, making at least four highlight reel saves during regulation time. That said, the whole Swiss team gets credit for playing the most intense hockey seen in the tournament so far. The Swiss hit everything that moved and played with determination that must have shocked the Hell out of the Canadians. I found myself rooting for the Swiss by the middle of the third period...
Speaking of the Canadians... they didn't look like the hockey super-power they're billed to be. They need to raise their game about three notches if they hope to make the medal round. Which, of course, they are quite capable of doing. The only question is: will they?
Sunday's US - Canada game will be VERY interesting.
And don't forget them Russians! With shooters like they have.............hmmmmmmmmm.
ReplyDeleteOh good lord the city will be ON FIRE for Sunday's game!!! You should have seen downtown Vancouver tonight - sheer mayhem with patriotic love... over-following with it - on the heels of Christine Nesbitt taking gold for the 1000m Women's Speedskating! I was at the Victory Ceremony tonight and the place was on FIRE!!!
ReplyDeleteI sat in front of the Nike speedskating uniform design team and it was GREAT - because they were also handing out the medals for Shani Davis's win (men's 1000m) - what a great one that was!
... sorry that was the Nike speedskating uniform design team - for the US speedskating team... wanted to clarify that...
ReplyDeleteI exchanged email address with one of them so who knows what opportunities will come of that encounter!!!
I caught a little of that hockey game, which was great. Jesse kept switching over to the slalom skiing, and I gave up - too tired to pay attention to much of anything.
ReplyDeleteGreat freaking' game, was pulling for the Swiss though.
ReplyDeleteTremendous game. I am so looking forward to Sunday!
ReplyDeleteI have missed the hockey. Cuz I'm glued to the Snowboard Half-Pipe.
ReplyDeleteGo ahead - pile on I probably deserve it.
And I'm OK with that. Those men and women who do the Half-Pipe are truly insane. And the most hilariously laid-back athletes I've ever seen.
Wipe out spectacularly in front of millions of international viewers - and get up laughing and smiling.
Plug in the iPod, get it tuned just right then start your run. Sing all the way down. Win a medal.
What's not to love! They don't take themselves too seriously, they all clearly appreciate the talents of their fellow snowboarders and they do murderously-crazy tricks.
Glenn: The Russians ain't all they're cracked up to be!
ReplyDeleteKC: Once again: you have the coolest of cool jobs!
Lou: I feel for ya. But if it would have been ME... Jesse would have drawn back a bloody stub if she had even touched the remote. ;-)
Small Tee: Me, too. I hate Crosby.
Jim: Remember that ol' "Sunday. Sunday! SUNDAY!" drag strip promo? Yep!
Kris: We likes what we likes. I haven't seen any of the half-pipe, but I HAVE seen the uniforms and they're disgraceful. Red Eye did a take-down on those abominations last evening and it was hilarious.
HEY!!! NO HATING ON CROSBIE ;0)
ReplyDeleteOK I did that last part on purpose just to bug ya!! It's "Crosby" I know... Syd the Kid ALL THE WAY (even if it means by the skin of our teeth at times... whoa!)
