Today's Happy Hour...

... was held outdoors for the first time in at least ten days or so.  I'm thinking the last time we took our pleasure outside was on or about the 20th of December, but ya know how memory fails in old age.  Tis a curse, that.

Now... that said... Happy Hour was good indeed.  We sat outside directly facing the pale winter sun and let its rays bathe our wrinkled old face, something that is inconceivable... not to mention inadvisable... in the summer months here on The High Plains of New Mexico.  But in the dead of winter it's not only conceivable but is most definitely the preferred modus operandi.

We only had one fly in our Happy Hour ointment today, that being an over-exuberant pour of our second beer.  Which is nothing that can't be corrected by an application of paper towels.

Heh.  A good day, indeed.

  1. I did procure some Red Hook ESB the other day. I haven't had any since the last time I tied up in Washington State. Ellensburg to be exact. Was May of '07.

  2. One of my favorite pint glasses is emblazoned with the Red Hook ESB logo, Glenn... and many's the ESB that's been poured in it, too.

  3. We walked in the park today - it was good to be out of the cold. I even hung clothes on the line.

  4. Haven't tried 1554 yet. How's does it go down?

Old Retired PO: Have you tried their Winter Hook or Copper Hook? Both are most excellent, IMHO. Ellensburg? Mighty fine cowtown.

  5. Lou: Yep... this was one hella-long cold snap, wasn't it?

BR: Beer Advocate gives 1554 a B+ based on 815 reviews. It's a regular in my fridge - I love it. From one of the BA reviews:

Very light on the smell, hints of chocolate and roasted malt.

Creamy cocoa and coffee are at the front of the flavor. Roasted grain and a mellow nut flavor back it up, with a hint of hop on the finish.

Somewhat light, but creamy at the same time, this is a difficult one to try to describe. Carbonation is fairly robust.

Give it a shot... it's pretty danged good.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
