I (Heart) Britain

It's no secret among the two of you who have visited these parts often: I'm an Anglophile of the highest order. This video is representative of one of the best recurring moments in Britain's life... the grand finale at The Proms in Royal Albert Hall:

And please… don't be posting any snarky "buts" in comments about Britain and creeping socialism, Britain and dhimmitude, or any other such. Just enjoy the moment above and keep your negativity to yourself. We're all quite aware of our problems, Yanks and Brits alike, and I'm of the opinion we should celebrate the heritage and beauty of our respective cultures much more often than we criticize.  Just sayin'.

The h/t goes to blog-bud Alison, who's posted some brilliant pictures of this year's Thames Festival and provided the link to the vid above.

  1. ***Thank you!!***

Huge hugs, cheers and kisses from England.

I'm of the same opinion. Right there in what you say is the way forward.

Hey re socialism, it could have been worse - remember Michael Foot? ;)

  2. You're MOST welcome, Alison... and thank YOU for the link!

re: Foot... Yup. I remember him well. He was Dame Maggie's incompetent nemesis and the Guy I Loved To Hate in the way-back. :D

  7. Well since Great Grandpa (to the 12th power) John brought my surname form England to Virginia in the late 1600's, I'm rather proud of my Anglo roots.

I firmly believe the Brits are good people. Their government has quietly led them to where they are right now, much as the Dems are trying to lead the U.S. down the path.

If I understand my history correctly, the UK got here faster as a result of the problems they faced after the end of WWII.

  8. Lou sez: Now I do snark Yankees.

Who need it... most times. :D

BR: My patronymic gives away my Brit heritage, but I come by my Anglophile tendencies due to my extended stays in Ol Blighty. But... that said... your comments are well taken.
