Now THIS is an Aquarium!

That would be the Kuroshio Sea at the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium. The Kuroshio Sea is the main tank at this Okinawa aquarium and holds nearly two million gallons of water... and four (!) whale sharks.

Wowzers... and particularly impressive when viewed in full-screen HD mode. Note the two divers in the tank...

  1. That is just pretty awesome. Look how small the diver looks in the tank. I have never wanted to scuba dive, and I still don't, but now I would love to see a huge aquarium like that.

  2. Wow. That's awesome. I've always wondered about sharks in those tanks. If I was one, I'd just scarf up all the other fish!

  3. How beautiful and serene. I would love to see this in person. Just a month ago, while at the beach and in the surf, a group (not sure of the correct terminology) of skates/rays came swimming by and around me proceeding up the coast. They were around a yard or so wide in size and the group was about 15-20 feet long. Just stood still and they went around me and on up the beach. A few bumped into me but that was all. Have to admit that my heart was pounding a bit.

  4. Amazing. We have some pretty amazing stuff in this battered ol' world.

  5. Lou: You and me both... on seeing an aquarium that large.

Jim: I wondered about the sharks and the other fish as well. Not to mention the divers...

Suzie: I had the occasion to "pet" manta rays while in the Caymans a few years back. There's a reef that is a local tourist attraction and the rays are quite docile out there, almost tame. But yeah: I hear ya about your heart rate. Mine was elevated at first, too! :D

Moogie: Ain't it great that we can still continue to be amazed at the wonders of our world, even at an advanced age? (speaking SOLELY about myownself, of course.)

  8. That's so cool. I love aquariums, sitting in front of one is like taking a vicodin, very soothing.
