An Interesting Site...
... for political junkies. This site features political logos from US elections... all the way back to 1960. The rest of you may disregard, if you ain't all that political.
I found images such as the one above to be interesting memory joggers. Not ALL the memories were good ones, tho. It really hurt to see that damned McGovern logo from 1972 (which I oh-so-proudly displayed on my rear bumper, back in the day)... among others.

Blast from the Past-that "Humphrey - The Peoples Democrat" bumper sticker really calls out to me. I was a volunteer for that campaign when it came through ABQ back in '72. I had a teacher in HS (West Mesa HS) that talked a bunch of us into picking a candidate and learning about them, following them and reporting on them. A friend of mine and I became volunteers and worked for his campaign. Funny thing, when we graduated I joined the Navy, he stayed home. I would became a Republican and he a Democrat. He is a dear friend and we have gone back and forth for every and I mean every presidential election since. That Humphrey campaign was the only time the two of us agreed on a candidate!! He now lives outside of LA and I in PA.

Curtis LeMay would have made a good veep, but he was the only candidate in '68 that was worth spit. (I think I'd have kept that McGovern thing to m'self.)

ReplyDeleteJimmy: Great story. I was pretty much apolitical in my youth, being focused on other, more... ummm... "earthly things." Yeah, that's it. Interesting how both people and things change as we age, eh?
ReplyDeleteBob: I voted for Tricky Dick in '68. And then my politics changed and radically so. Ya, I was a freakin' moonbat, once upon a time. Thank GOD I recovered. And Thank God my father lived to see my recovery, too. He thought he'd failed as a father... ;-)
Doc: S'true, unfortunately. You wouldn't BELIEVE the crap I got from my peers about my politics back in '72... or maybe you would.
And Hey! I never said The One is the anti-Christ... I just said he's an Über-Lib and would be oh-so-wrong for America... compared to the alternative. And you'll note I've not been bashing him at all, lately. I'm much more than willing to give the man a chance and hope he succeeds. Really.
