Via Blog Bud Mike…
Yup. Some people SHOULD stay home rather than exercising their right to vote. What on earth gives you the right to vote if, like in the video, you can’t recognize a photo of Joe Biden? My gut tells me the majority of those hopeychange voters don’t have a frickin’ CLUE what their candidate stands for… or doesn’t stand for. Not all, mind you, just the majority. Particularly those people who were most recently registered by ACORN. Yep. Now there’s a real case of “civic involvement” and “doing the right thing,” even if that Right Thing kinda-sorta violates the law, yanno? But, Hey! Whatever it takes.
I often watch Jay Leno do his "man on the street" interviews, and I've been shocked for years how utterly stupid people of all age groups are when it comes to the history and workings of this country. Damn, didn't they pay attention in school at all? Don't people care enough about their country to keep up with current events, or even watch the evening news?
ReplyDeleteHell no.
Yeah, like Mushy and you said over at my place, Leno's been doing this sort of thing for years. Still, good to see it contrasted this sharply with voter registration drives and the like.
ReplyDeletePlus, I just loved Stossel's bit near the end where he responds to the girl (jokingly) saying she wouldn't vote with, "Good for her!"
He's just about the only guy in the media that I actually agree with. There's a fair number I respect, but he's the only one whose ideology actually matches mine.
Mushy sez: Don't people care enough about their country to keep up with current events, or even watch the evening news?

Yup. But what absolutely SLAYS me is more people recognize Paris and Britney than Palin or Biden. So... most of us (I use the term "us" loosely) NEVER miss "Entertainment Tonite," or whatever the hell it's called.
Mike: I'm not all that familiar with Stossel, as I gave up on network news quite some time ago. But I'll check him out. Thanks for posting this vid. It's so good I HAD to steal it!
If you have a fifth grade education, you should be able to read. If you can read, you should have no excuse for not knowing a bit about history or politics. Some of those "voters" are probably in college, yet they still know little. Pretty sad.
