Just Frickin' SICK

Liberal discourse:

Now, I want to be clear and speak directly to those of you who LOVED that Palin interview. You're an idiot. I mean that. This is not one of those cases where we're going to agree to disagree. This isn't one of those situations where we debate it passionately and then walk away thinking that the other guy is wrong but argued well. I'm not going to think of you as a thoughtful but misguided person with different ideas who still really cares about the country and the world. No, sorry, not this time. This time, if you watched those interview excerpts and weren't scared out of your freakin' mind, then you're mentally ill, mentally disabled, or mentally disturbed. What you are NOT is responsible, informed, curious, thoughtful, mature, educated, empathetic, or remotely serious. I mean it.

Michael! I love you! (Though MY wife would NOT be cool with that!)
God, I've been waiting to hear someone speak those words to me. I have made the same decision about a week or two ago. (Yes, I was still trying to have the "reasoned debate" with these cretins.) But it finally hit me just as you said. It is NOT a matter of reasoned debate. It is not a matter of just disagreement. These people are idiots and reasoned debate only elevates them to as level far above where they deserve to be.
Its like arguing whether the moon is made of green cheese. Or with a creationist.
Why is everyone else so afraid to say the obvious. I was getting so discouraged by the American populace that I was about to put a bumper sticker on my car that says;
A M E R I C A D E S E R V E S

There are 27…count ‘em… 27 frickin’ pages of comments to this despicable article at The Huffington Post.  I could only stomach the first page; I didn’t dive any deeper.  I feel like I need a shower, as it is.

I really DO try and understand these folks… but I’m rapidly coming to the point where I wish… fervently… that some of their darkest fantasies would come true.  You know… things like the gulag, the black helicopters, and all that other paranoid bullshit.  Because these people are seriously frickin’ disturbed.  Deranged.  And completely devoid of respect for others and, by inference, themselves.  But then again, perhaps the only thing they need is to be taught some manners… with a pop right in the mouth, repeated as necessary.  On the other hand, you’d probably have to beat them to death, by the look of it.

What the HELL is going on in this country?

  1. Whats wrong with this country....

Oh let me count the ways....

oh wait....what comes after a trillion????

There are so many things wrong that I don't think there are enough words in the present dictionary to describe those who think that a DEMOCRATIC president (especially the one running) is going to fix what is wrong with our country..... I watched most of the GOP rally today and was just so consistently moved by it, not because of my PARTY but by what was said by John McCain and Sarah Palin.....I mean it does not take a rocket scientist to figure this out....even what Joe Biden said this morning about it being Patriotic in paying more taxes....

FACE IT, ANYONE THAT IS IN THE MILITARY, EVER BEEN IN THE MILITARY, Pays income taxes just like the rest of America, and federal income taxes go towards paying the military their paychecks, so if the military pays federal income taxes, that makes the military self employed to some degree, albeit involuntarily....

And yet only McCain served this nation, his sons are serving, HER son is serving....Joe Biden never served, for whatever medical reason he managed to keep serving for, (sidenote here; Jimmy Stewart was told he couldn't serve in the military either, he retired as a General)

Obama said that he didn't feel he had an obligation to serve because there was no US military conflict going on.....I Suppose that fact that IRAN was holding our citizens hostage was no big deal, (November 1979) nothing that would make, gee I don't know someone who thought that serving in he military was an um.....nobling...ah.....(sic) whatever.....he said.....a reason to serve....sheesh get over yourself.

  2. That picture collage you ran months ago with the Code Pink rally in Berkeley was enough for me to realize...wow, there really are people who are capable of cogent thought and are still completely devoid of any kind of wisdom and knowledge...but its not like we can just run out and shoot them...yet.

  3. I've encountered similar posts where the democratic view seems to be presented by idiots... but I thank God for them, because they will be the demise of their party.

His list of what Republicans are NOT is interesting, completely lacking factual support... and very childish.

  4. BP,BP, as in watch your BP, BP....as I still maintain the left is a collection of hate filled, low IQed Marxists(not all buy a large %)...The Huffington Post(which I suscribe too, just to post and rip them, I am loved..;) ..), and the Daily Kos, are what's wrong with the former Democratic Party and the USA...the hate thrown at us conservatives and Christians is just another example that we are destined to become the USSA, the United Socialist States of America. Iif we don't fight hard to recapture our political areans and universites and media, the country we love, may be lost for our kids and their kids.

It's becoming a one sided freak show, and we in the majority are standing by silenced by the PC world.

  5. Careful, Buck, don't let them make your blood pressure go up.

Pat, I like your USSA comment.

Both ASW and TFNP have some good points too.

  6. Buck, I admire your fortitude in your foray into the fever swamps. I confess I try that occasionally. I don't just need a shower after those encounters - I need a brillo pad for my brain.

Democrats want everyone to believe they are reasoned, accepting, tolerant people. I never believed it; certainly those comments illustrate they are just the opposite.

Like you Buck - sometimes I think those of us who ARE more reasoned should just let them have what they aren't aware they want - black helo's indeed. Let them see what life in a communist state is really like.

For my part - I'll build that big bunker in my backyard, invite all my friends and family - and live underground until the nightmare passes.

  7. Excellent points all.

I've been trying to put my lib-dem hat back on to see if I can view the world through their eyes.
I think that Sarah represents the ultimate bogeyman (or bogeymom, maybe) that the Left has always feared. To them she is not reasonable because she gives no indication that she is conflicted like most "civilized" people. She doesn't seem real to them so she's easy to demonize. She's not full of neurotic angst or self-doubt. She is experienced, optimistic, self-assured, a go-getter and a doer.

She does not represent anything that the Left can relate to. She's "from the people" in that she hasn't had an ivy league education and she doesn't come across as a woman of ideas who would sit down and discuss philosophy or art in a sophisticated way. She'd rather talk to the moms in the market - although she does know her history. She's been too busy living and making tough decisions and keeping her values intact.

And her values? Americanism (disgusting to Lefties), religion (terrifying to secularists), lover of human life going back to the womb (feeding into the guilt trips of women who may have made other decisions regarding this very touchy subject), enthusiastic participant in the Western ways of the outdoors (scandalizing the animal rights/tree hugger types).
She is a supporter of the military, which also seems hypocritical to them because of her pro-life beliefs. That she could be proud of grown sons and daughters who serve their country to protect the lives of their families and nation, goes over their heads.

She is not awed by anyone except those with values like hers. This leaves out most of the big ego types, including Oprah. (If you'll remember during her earlier interview, she said her SISTER loves Oprah. No wonder Oprah is terrified of her.)

But I think it is the pro-life issue that scares them the most. Older women still carry the trauma of public scorn toward an unmarried, pregnant woman that existed in an earlier time. It meshed with the newer message of "Women can be and do whatever they what (if they don't get pregnant)" Anyway, feminists will claw at anyone who doesn't respect and acknowledge this - similar to the black rage toward perceived "Uncle Toms."

Also, to them, the fact that she puts human life first clashes with her seeming to put her career first and they find this hypocritical. What they don't understand is that she is not putting herself first. She is putting public service first and her family is coming along for the amazing experience. As her husband Todd says, life is full of fascinating experiences if you are open to them. This is a family that is engaged in life.

I think this is why she excites the base. They know she isn't perfect and that she'll probably make mistakes, but they're okay with that. They know she'll probably see them and admit them and, most importantly, rectify them.
McCain is similar in this way.

  8. Oh, and add to this the increasing incivility since the sixties and you have the perfect storm of infantile behavior matched with assumed intellect and me-first attitudes.

    :)

  9. This is what's wrong. But you already knew that.

They're mistaking a conclusion with a premise. You're supposed to have watched the Palin interview and come to a reasonable conclusion about it. But they know there are these other "tribes" out there, and they use the conclusion as a litmus test to figure out if other folks have rocks in their heads.

The process really breaks down with the Palin interview, because the relevant matter that is outside what was actually broadcast, is the stuff that was inspected by the pro-Palin people (she looks m-u-c-h better after you're done doing your homework, as you well know). They are tribal people -- as are we all. We are molded and shaped by thousands of years of evolution to live in tribes. My tribe is so great. That other tribe is so wrong.

Most of us, as we reach adulthood, grow out of it eventually; we start to come to our conclusions about ideas based on their content, rather than based on who said 'em. Other folks, failing to grow out of this like normal adults do, instantly cross the fourth milestone on the way to insanity and there you have your Huffington Posters.

They think like insects. They can't come to a conclusion about things, without knowing what all the other fellows thought. And they hate and despise people who can think independently, for this is what they themselves brag about being able to do...but in reality they can't even start. These are the folks who, when the teacher said "may I please see a show of hands," started swiveling their heads from left to right and left again, before making a decision about that hand. The teachers assumed the students were growing out of this habit...they assumed wrong.

Thing I Know #230. We’d call them “rationalists” if they thought things through rationally; that’s why they’re called “socialists.”

    Okay, I'm all done recursively-linking now. :-)

  10. Thanks for the links, ASW. I'd seen The One hem and haw his way through the answer to the military question and was MUCH less than impressed. Your other points are danged well-made, too.

Jay sez: wow, there really are people who are capable of cogent thought and are still completely devoid of any kind of wisdom and knowledge...but its not like we can just run out and shoot them...yet.

Agreed. And funny you mention "shoot them." I won't go into any great detail here, but I fired off an e-mail to one of my Liberal-Left friends last evening around the time I put this post up... including the following line of "sweetness and light:"

Your people. (link to HuffPo article in the first two words) Just read the first page of comments. I'm ready to start shooting. Fuck a bunch of talking.

Happy Hour had just concluded and I was feeling zero pain and exhibiting zero sense, at the same time. Funny how that happens. I apologized this morning.

Sam sez: I've encountered similar posts where the democratic view seems to be presented by idiots... but I thank God for them, because they will be the demise of their party.

Which, of course, is the healthy and reasonable way to view this sort of crap. I got waaay too carried away in my outrage yesterday.

Pat sez: It's becoming a one sided freak show, and we in the majority are standing by silenced by the PC world.

Yeah... frickin' Culture Wars, Part Deux. Or Part 47, depending on your POV. Sometimes it just seems like there's no possible reconciliation here. We just can't seem to live up to the ol' "live and let live" idea of tolerance that's supposed to be the hallmark of a liberal democracy.

Lou sez: Careful, Buck, don't let them make your blood pressure go up.

You don't know, Lou. I was LIVID after reading that crap yesterday... I don't often lose it, but the comments to that piece of crap post pushed me over the edge. I'm rather embarrassed about losing it, today.

Kris sez: Buck, I admire your fortitude in your foray into the fever swamps.

I'm only gonna do that over coffee from now on... No more beer and moonbats for me. The results aren't good for my general health. ;-)

Bec says: But I think it is the pro-life issue that scares them the most.

I'm certain you're right. It's the biggest hot-button with my Liberal friend with whom I most often discuss these sorts of things. Your other points are well-taken, as well, Bec. As always and ever! MOST especially about the incivility. I think that's the bit that concerns me most... coz, as indicated in the comments to that post... we simply can't discuss ANYTHING any longer.

Morgan sez: Okay, I'm all done recursively-linking now. :-)

Not to worry. Whereas I've read all your stuff, there's a good possibility others who stumble in here may not have had the opportunity. Link away, M'Friend!

  12. Great minds again.

I just had a similar experience and reaction.

  13. Buck, I am very concerned about the deepening split between the parties... ethical, moral, intellectual, all of it... We can't seem to find much common ground with each other! Doesn't that indicate a very unstable America ahead? Once the elections are over, will it all disappear? How can we continue to be a world leader, when all we do is "in" fight? What do these differences mean for us as a country? (Just my overactive worry gene at work here).

  14. Buck ~ You are really on top of your game lately with your posts - they have quite a relevant "edge" and I am enjoying them.

I guess someone has to monitor The Huffington Post - but I am just glad it is not me ... I just can't stomach the absolute vitriol over there. Thanks for doing the job some of us just can't do, Buck! (Don't forget to take your blood pressure meds before you visit there, though.)

  15. Andy sez: What is WITH these people and their bumper stickers?

LOL... agreed! I've posted on the phenomenon before... just do a search on "bumper sticker."

Phil: Thanks for the link, Bud.

Alison sez: Buck, I am very concerned about the deepening split between the parties... ethical, moral, intellectual, all of it...

Me, too... although you wouldn't know it if you only read this single post, written in a moment of anger and while under the influence. On the one hand, I try and follow Mom's advice about being a good example...being civil, engaging in dialog, etc., but that really doesn't work worth a shit with most Lefties... in my experience, anyway. Like everything else, there are exceptions. I really don't know what to do in this space except to keep voting against the Democrats in an effort to keep them out of power. But that only works for so long... coz change is inevitable. Especially when the Republicans governed so poorly for so long this last time around (speaking of the congress).

And yet... keeping the Right in power only further frustrates and angers the Left. SO: ya got me. I dunno.

Sharon sez: Buck ~ You are really on top of your game lately with your posts - they have quite a relevant "edge" and I am enjoying them.

Ya think? I really was half in the bag when I wrote this particular post and I seriously thought about changing it. Maybe I'm being too honest here in comments, eh? I mean... you wouldn't have known I was ummm... blitzed... if I hadn't told ya (I think). ;-)

  16. Blitzed?

    Nah! Never would have known.

I just hope Arianna Huffington has the good sense to stay out of your way when you have been "partaking".
