When we’re judging candidates (or friends), we don’t just judge the individuals but the milieus that produced them. We judge them by the connections that exist beyond choice and the ground where they will go home to be laid to rest. Andrew Jackson was a backwoodsman. John Kennedy had his clan. Ronald Reagan was forever associated with the small-town virtues of
It is hard to plant Obama. Both he and his opponent have written coming-of-age tales about their fathers, but they are different in important ways. McCain’s “Faith of My Fathers” is a story of a prodigal son. It is about an immature boy who suffers and discovers his place in the long line of warriors that produced him. Obama’s “Dreams From My Father” is a journey forward, about a man who took the disparate parts of his past and constructed an identity of his own.
While it may be “hard to plant” Obama, it ain’t hard to look at his colleagues, his campaign advisors, his past associations/influences, and draw suitable conclusions about who the man is and how he’d govern, if elected. Ah, but there’s the rub… most people, if one believes our illustrious media… simply don’t do their homework. Mention Alinsky and/or Ayers to your “average” Obama supporter (which eliminates the
What Brooks fails to understand in his oversimplified Freudian assessment of Obama's psyche is something truly monumental, heretofore not seen in American politics: the very likelihood that Sen. Barack Obama will make history as the first black president of The United States of America. Given that black men were still being lynched and beaten just 45 or so years ago simply for being black, this accomplishment not only is historic and electric, but it carries with it an unfathomable amount of pressure and stress. Yes, Barack Obama is an agent of change. He is a light, a force, a movement.
Yep. Screw credentials, never mind the thin resume, and let’s just not talk about silly, wrong-headed re-distributive economic policies. What we really need is an agent of change, a light, a force…a movement. Haven’t we heard this sort of krep before? Why, yes… yes, I believe we have. And it was just as dumb and ignorant-sounding then as it is now.
Interesting times.

And then there’s yet another reason I’ll vote for McCain:
“As you may know,” he told the tens of thousands gathered at the 68th annual Sturgis Rally at Buffalo Chip campground, “not long ago, a couple of hundred thousand Berliners made a lot of noise for my opponent. I’ll take the roar of fifty thousand Harleys any day.”
Bikers in the crowd, who had arrived from around the country to partake in the massive outdoor party, revved their engines numerous times in support of the presumptive GOP nominee. McCain said it was music to his ears.
“This is my first time here,” he said, “but I recognize that sound. It’s the sound of freedom.”
[…]
If there were any Obama supporters to be found in the vast Buffalo Chip campground, they kept quiet.
Indeed, McCain felt so comfortable at the event that he even volunteered his wife for the rally’s traditional beauty pageant, an infamously debauched event that’s been known to feature topless women.
“I encouraged Cindy to compete,” McCain said to cheers. “I told her with a little luck she could be the only woman ever to serve as first lady and Miss Buffalo Chip.”
John McCain: The Biker’s Candidate! I can be just as superficial… or more so… as the next guy, ya know.

Today’s Pics: When times are slow (read as: no new photos at hand) I always resort to baby pictures… which are just as good as cat or puppy pics. Better, even. Here are three such (they're not re-runs, either), and doubtless you have several shots exactly like these… assuming you’re a parent. And if you’re not a parent? Well, suck it up. I’ll have more scenery, sunsets, mo-sickle pics, and/or what-not as soon as it cools down a bit and my motivation returns.
McCain just knows how to get down to the American people. Love that he was at a Sturgis!
ReplyDeleteFor the last two Presidential elections, I have heard from our media that the Dems are going to win - all the polls say so, but they didn't. I hope they are wrong again. I hope McCain does a great job of picking his VP - that may be what decides some disgruntled Republicans.
ReplyDeleteWe do have pics similar to those. I notice that SN3 was much cleaner while sitting on that white couch in the prior pic than in his highchair. Did that couch stay white?
Do you think that Obama or his staff even know where Sturgis is?
ReplyDeleteI would really like to go to Sturgis.
ReplyDeleteWhat a road trip that would be. A friend of mine has been there twice but he pulls his bike on a trailer, gets a motel room, then rides to the site. Big Sissy. I'd ride all the way. That would really peg the old fun meter.....
I agree Lou, very important that McCain pick the right VP.... who do you think it will be, Buck? I'm still on the fence.... absolutely cute baby... what BLUE eyes!
ReplyDeletei just realized the other day (though i'm certain this has been written or spoken somewhere before it exploded in my mind)...if Barack wins, the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave would be titled...The Obamanation. It would fit. Interesting that your average Harley forker could be the swing vote.
ReplyDeleteMan those are some blue eyes!
Going to Sturgis was a GREAT move by Senator McCain ... however, I haven't seen any coverage in the news media which is par for the course.
ReplyDeleteI agree he needs to pick an extremely strong VP running mate ... but not sure that he will do that.
Obama remains just plain scary to me ... and maybe worse than thinking of him in the Oval Office is picturing his wife anywhere near the White House. Sorry but UGH...she would make a frightening First Lady.
Great blue eyes on SN3.
I like the baby pics better than the dog and cat. Not that there's anything wrong with dog and cats pics, but babies are just so cool.
ReplyDeleteDan, if you cannot make it to Sturgis, try Red River, NM on Memorial Weekend.
ReplyDeleteObama Hussain is dropping in "most" polls...except the usual suspects, AP, Newsweek, etc. i.e. those from the far left.
ReplyDeleteMcCain, hardly my favorite, is not so much coming-on-strong, as it is the Black Messiah and his handlers falling on their faces.
Social issues, and economics aside, who do you want in charge of foreign policy and the military?....There is only one answer, and it's not Barack Hussain Obama and his radical far left wife(who I notice of late has been laying low).
Towanda: now I definitely won't sleep at night. I've had my head in the sand about Michelle Obama - ignoring the obvious. Now you've put it into words and I can't go back.
ReplyDeleteB. Obama would be terrifying enough; but that socialist elitist what's-good-for-you-ain't-good-enough-for-me beyotch makes them the duo from hell.
Yeah I know - I need to express myself better, let things out more...

So totally agreed!!!!!!
I love baby pictures, they're fresh and the sweet part of life!
...I'm with Piper on this - those baby blues, woo, hoo!
Jenny: Me, too. But not everyone was impressed, and that just might be my subject for today's post... assuming I finally get around to writing it.
ReplyDeleteLou sez: I notice that SN3 was much cleaner while sitting on that white couch in the prior pic than in his highchair. Did that couch stay white?
Yeah, pretty much. ScotchGuard is wonderful stuff... Believe it or don't, that couch was about ten years old when the pic was taken. I kept it for another year and a half and sold it during the Great Going Out O' Bid'niz Sale. For a pretty good price, too.
Susan sez: Do you think that Obama or his staff even know where Sturgis is?
I seriously doubt it. But I'm sure they do now!
Dan sez: I'd ride all the way. That would really peg the old fun meter.....
I could see ya doin' it... on your Gold Wing (how's that coming, by the way?). I CAN'T see me doin' it on Miss Zukiko. I love her to death and all that, but she ain't a distance bike.
Alison sez: I agree Lou, very important that McCain pick the right VP.... who do you think it will be, Buck?
God only knows. Romney seems to be the leading choice of the Talking Heads, and I guess I'm OK with that. But I wish McCain could persuade Condi to run. I think that would be a GREAT ticket.
Jay sez: If Barack wins, the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave would be titled...The Obamanation.
Aiiieee! That thought never occurred to me. Thanks, Jay. I think.
Sharon sez: Obama remains just plain scary to me ... and maybe worse than thinking of him in the Oval Office is picturing his wife anywhere near the White House. Sorry but UGH...she would make a frightening First Lady.
Agreed. I've been mulling over the "Michelle as First Lady" possibility ever since that Vanity Fair cover came out. I find it amusing to contrast MO and Laura. Wanna guess who wins?
Amy: I'm partial to baby pics (vs. cats/dogs) myownself!
Lou sez: Dan, if you cannot make it to Sturgis, try Red River, NM on Memorial Weekend.
Where does everyone STAY? There ain't that many hotels in RR and vicinity!
Pat sez: Social issues, and economics aside, who do you want in charge of foreign policy and the military?....There is only one answer, and it's not Barack Hussain Obama and his radical far left wife(who I notice of late has been laying low).
Precisely. I've noticed MO isn't in the spotlight of late, too... and one assumes the campaign has made a conscious decision in this space. I'm not even sure she went to Europe/the Mid-East with His Wonderfulness. I don't recall seeing any pics, anyway.
Kris sez: Yeah I know - I need to express myself better, let things out more...
Well...ya got a soap box here, any time ya wanna use it!!
Dawn: We are on the same page, aren't we? That's a great good thing!
Thanks to all who commented on Bobby. His eyes are a continuing source of debate between The Second Mrs. Pennington and I. I say they're mine...yadda, yadda. But TSMP does have nice eyes... which is an inside joke that no one who reads this blog could possibly understand. And it's too long to explain in comments. ;-)
First time here and I love it!!
ReplyDeleteThose blue eyes, wow!
And I love the McCain article. I'm not very political, but Obama won't get my vote!
Thanks for dropping by, Carrie. And if ya got a couple of smiles here... I'm glad!
ReplyDeleteAnd, note the PGR armband on the guy in the background of the McCain at Sturgis photo. Presumably from the position of the people, he had just shaken that gentleman's hand.
ReplyDeleteB.B. - I've thought of a trip to NM. I would like to see Buck again and I've never been to the southwest. Actually, I'd like to take a couple of years and hit the road. There are so many places in our country that should be seen and enjoyed but I'm not sure if thats possible now. What a trip that would be.
ReplyDeleteBuck, I've got a small problem with the fuel system and it will be back on the road. The Bike is fuel injected and I think the filter is clogged. I just haven't had a chance to work on it with work and all. They are great bikes though.
Laurie - I had completely missed the PGR armband on the man in back, so thanks for the head's up. I LOVE the PGR - and presumably there aren't many Obamaniacs among them.
ReplyDeleteDan sez: Actually, I'd like to take a couple of years and hit the road.
ReplyDeleteWe've had this discussion before, haven't we? And time's getting shorter. But, just as a thought-starter... RV + trailer + Gold Wing = FUN! Worked for me, for a year. And it's always summer somewhere in the US of A. The only downside I can see is the cost of fuel.
