Farmall Promenade...

… is the name of a tractor square dancing team from Nemaha, Iowa. I saw a ten minute (or so) segment of these guys on PBS’ “Market to Market” last evening, and thought I’d share. The Farmall Promenade web site is here. And here they are in an amateur video (4:51) shot at a county fair:

Pretty cool, eh?

  1. Square Dancing - The original "Rap Music". Those Farmall's are probably the most popular tractors ever made. Every farm I ever worked at had at least one of them.

  2. I looked for a link to "Market to Market" on PBS' web site, but there wasn't one (it's evidently a VERY minor show, and probably only appears in rural, e.g., agriculture-oriented, markets). The reason I wanted to link? Because the show dealt oh-so-briefly with the history of the Farmalls these guys use... they're all immaculately restored vintage models. Of course, I guess ALL Farmalls are vintage, these days.

  3. Buck, they have a web site (I don't know how to link in comments)http://www.nemahaweb.com/farmallpromenade/. My friends in the north end of the county watch "RFD TV". It is a satellite tv show. I don't receive it but i do go to the web site. It has a lot about farm Eq. and trains which I enjoy.

  4. I linked the site (same one you linked, above) in the post, Dan. Is this a sign that old age is creeping up on ya? ;-)

I'm somewhat surprised, and not a lil bit chagrined, that no one else has commented on this post. I thought the whole concept of guys square dancing (on tractors, no less!) would elicit more comments than it has. Which all goes to prove that one should never assume YOUR interests are shared by more than anyone except yourself...

That said... I'm NOT at all surprised that you would be interested in this sort of thing. "Great Minds," and all that... ;-)

  5. I usually don't comment on what you or your readers say because they, and you, are much wiser about those things than I. I like electrical and mechanical things. I like to invent stuff, most of the test equipment I use at work I made, I feel very uncomfortable if I do not completely understand the system I'm responsible for. My lovely bride says I'm pretty anal about it and she is probably right. Basically if it moves and makes noise I like it. Nothing stirs my blood like my Bride or a steam engine.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
