Hey! I said it was a piece of cake!

Re: the side by side comparison. Lemmee figure out how (as in some sort of scenario) to do that, and I will. Don't hold your breath, tho.

Sam: You also have a life (e.g., job and family) and not nearly the same amount of time as I do to keep up. That makes a BIG diff.

  4. I got 9 correct. Pretty good, considering the only news program I hear is the 30 second ABC News brief that comes on the radio as I'm driving home from work.

  5. 91% Damn I swear to God that guy Harry Reid's name was Dick Weed.

O' Well, I still got 11 of 12, and since that average is 50%, you know why that Guy Harry Hussain is probably gonna be the next Prez!

  7. Buck, tied you but I agree with you that it is an easy test. I looked at what questions were mis-answered the most and after that comunist Harry Reid (from Nevada, by the way) the next most missed question was the number of US casualties in Iraq (28%). That to me is really bad because it means the general public is really asleep or being mis-lead. I keep track because I have skin in the game, but I would still keep that figure high on my list of things to keep track of regardless of my SN2's chosen profession. I was once an elected official (a Township Supervisor here in PA) and was amazed at really dumb the public is, and I am talking about very simple, every day issues and the general public has no clue. And on top of that, they swallow hook, line, sinker and the rod and reel the rumors and stories that have no basis in fact. And that makes small town governance so much harder. I was sorry to not get re-elected because I loved working for the people, at the same time I was proud of the fact that I had pissed off so many political leaders that they wanted me replaced. Moral of the story is a good politician gets enough people mad at him that they don't vote for him a second time.

    BT: Jimmy T sends.

Ah... but you read the blogs and such, and I think that counts for more, right?

That's just what he's called in the Senate cloak room. ;-)

Sharon sez: Darn. I wanted to tie you ... I am SO competitive! ...

Well, if you'd had your watch on... ;-)

I didn't know you were a pol! :-) But I hear ya, Jimmy. Loud and clear. Dunno if you dived into the demographics all that deep, but the 18-29 group's results were pretty sad. Three-fourths of 'em knew all about Oprah/Obama, tho. Scary.

True, and believe it or not, most of the news I get is from your blog. Most of the rest of what I read is knitting blogs--besides you and the Oklahoma Gang.

By the way, I also wanted to offer the excuse that I took the test at 4:00 this morning!

  10. Buck, only a small diversion for me, it was 7-unappreciated years working for the community. It was actually rewarding as I was very active despite having a full time job. The political job only paid $1500 per year (yes, you saw that right) and I could attend all the meeting I wanted to attend. There were Planning Commission, Sewer Advisory Board, Open Space, Recreation, the Environmental Advisory Board and the regular Board of Supervisors meetings two times a month. ALL of them at night!!! Then there were the extra meetings with the County Commission, the State Department of Environmental Protection (these were necessary because of the Sewer Plant and the guy trying to put a Landfill on his property), the Public Utility Commission (for the privately run Water Company and the Cable TV franchise). Add to that meetings with the citizens who all had issues, never complements, negotiations with the Unionized Uniform Employees (the Police, we only had 8 at the time) and to be fair the Non-Union, Non-uniformed employees needed coddling too. There were the frequent trips out to look at bridges and roads, roadside ditches and illegal dumping.

It was quite the education. Most folks have no clue what it takes to run a Town, no matter the size, there is a stock amount of work that has to be done.

I wouldn't do it again even if they doubled the Pay!!!

  11. Jimmy: You have more patience with the general public and dedication than I have. My father-in-law sat on the school board in his small town for 20 years or so, and I often wondered how he put up with all the crap... and there was LOTS of it. Politics at any level and in any shape or form is most definitely a spectator sport for me. That said, I'm glad there are good people who WILL take on "the machine," if only for a while.

    Good on ya!

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
