Yet Another "Spare Me" Moment

Seeing what she wants to see, rather than what’s really there:

There are many reasons Clinton is losing the nomination contest, some having to do with her strategic mistakes, others with the groundswell for "change." But for all Clinton's political blemishes, the darker stain that has been exposed is the hatred of women that is accepted as a part of our culture.

That’s the last paragraph in an op-ed by Marie Cocco in today’s WaPo. There are 13 preceding paragraphs containing many examples of what the author claims is misogyny in our culture…all having to do with Her Hillaryness, of course. Okaaay…

Here’s a newsflash for ya, Ms. Cocco: A large segment of America hates actively dislikes Hillary Clinton. Those same people still love their mothers, their wives, their sisters, and women in general… and YrHmblScrb is part of that group. Just because we dislike a political candidate who happens to be female in no way means we’re all closet misogynists… this being especially true where female Hillary-bashers are concerned. And there are more than a few of those, in case you haven’t noticed.

I’ll submit there are boors and people with bad taste liberally sprinkled throughout these United States, and bad taste knows no geographical or demographical boundaries. Still and even, a handful of bad jokes, stupid tee shirts, and nutcrackers in the form of Her Hillaryness are not evidence of endemic misogyny in our culture, let alone a general acceptance of same. They are simply political statements that happen to cross your personal threshold of what’s acceptable and what’s not. Your op-ed is SO far off the mark it’s not funny. I suggest you take a deep, deep breath and relax.

Today’s rhetorical question: Why do the media give nut-jobs like this woman the time of day, anyway?

  1. The writer from the WaPo needs to write for one of the gossip papers. She would fit in well there.

Statements like she made really push my buttons. Dislike of one PERSON is not hate for all that are like them in race, sex, religion, ect.

On the news I heard a woman say if Obama is not elected than our country is not ready for a black president. Aiiieeeeeeeee! That makes my blood boil! I won't even go there.

As for your rhetorical question: The media is made up of "nut-jobs" they all give each other time of day. Birds of a feather and all that.

  2. Hey, they've got to have some excuse, don't they? I mean, if everyone can't see what a wonderful person Hillary is and what a wonderful president she would make, it's got to be because he hates women in general. After all, who could not absolutely adore the wonderful example of the perfect women Hillary is unless he is absolutely misogynistic?

And that, dear Buck, is very well put indeed :)

I'm beginning to have no patience at all with the level of immaturity cropping up this year in our media and our politics! Let's grow up people!

  5. It's just amazing what passes for political discourse in this country. Truly amazing.

Thanks, Buck. You said it about as well as I could have, and saved me the trouble.

  6. Well put Buck. I couldn't agree more. Also I agree with Ash, on the black statement. They want to be treated the same as everyone else, then when they don't get their way it's pull out the discrimination card. I am getting weary of it all. Just be a woman, black man, or white man who has the best interest of this country in mind, and chooses the high road. I will vote for them!!!!

  7. Ashley: What Lou and Dawn said.

Becky: You sure that's sarcasm? ;-)

Diva: Key phrase in your comment: ...who has the best interest of this country in mind...

And that's where we (Americans) tend to differ, eh?

And thank you ALL for your kind words!

  8. Unfortunately I feel most politicians only have their best interest in mind.

  9. If Hillary was a man (oh, she's not???) I'd still hate him/her. She is a pox.

  10. I will not miss walking past airport concessions selling the Hillary Nutcracker, a device in which a pantsuit-clad Clinton doll opens her legs to reveal stainless-steel thighs that, well, bust nuts.

Seeing what she wants to see instead of what's really there, is right. I have long been in a dizzying state of awe over Hillary's ability to take plain-old-tragedy, like AIDS, family bankruptcies caused by uncovered health conditions, Hurricane Katrina and the disaster in Indonesia, and create villains for those situations when speaking about them -- said villain not already present.

I would be in equal awe of a male figurehead who made such a habit out of this.

Hillary has been such a one-trick pony. There's always a Bad Guy and she's always here to take 'im down a peg on our behalf. The subject under discussion doesn't matter. Plain and simply, she was rejected because you can attract a lot more flies with honey than with vinegar, as they say.

  11. Diva sez: Unfortunately I feel most politicians only have their best interest in mind.

Agreed, Diva. And more's the pity.

Kris sez: If Hillary was a man (oh, she's not???) I'd still hate him/her. She is a pox.

I don't exactly hate the woman, but I sure as Hell dislike her. A LOT.

Morgan sez: Hillary has been such a one-trick pony. There's always a Bad Guy and she's always here to take 'im down a peg on our behalf. The subject under discussion doesn't matter. I generally agree with you, Morgan, and would add that Hillary's "one-trick" persona is Democrat Party politics, personified. There's always a "bad guy," be it Dubya, corporations, trade agreements, or what-have-you that's holding the Little Guy down... i.e., "you're all victims and we're here to SAVE you!" Even Obama plays that tune, although he uses more strings than horns in his particular arrangements.

  12. It's neither a Republican or a Democratic "thing" that I am looking at. It's not a so-called race or sex or "ism". It's "clinging to the throne".

    Historically I see: Regean-Bush, Regean-Bush, Bush-Quayle, Clinton-Gore, Clinton-Gore, Bush-Chenney, Bush-Chenney.

My personal opinion is that all federal positions to which people are elected should be one term and one term only. If elected to the executive then four years as president is all you get. The same is for the legislative branch.

  13. Hey Troy! Thanks for dropping by. I think term limits are a good idea, and we already have them in the 22nd Amendment (presidential, anyway). But one term is too short, in my view. Five two-year terms for the House and two six-year terms for the Senate would be about right. YMMV, of course.

There's something to be said for continuity...but continuity can quickly turn into perceived ownership of the office, as we've seen these past few.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
