Hatin' On Blogger...

So. Here I sit, with a post about half-complete... a post which depends in its entirety on supporting photos... and Blogger absolutely refuses to upload pics. And it's been this way for the last two hours, or since about 1200 hrs, MST. You select the photos to upload, click the "Upload" button and Blogger appears to be doing just that for about 20 seconds. And then you get a "server error, please try again in 30 seconds" message.

Right.

As I said... I've been trying for a lil over two hours now. Frustration! I know Blogger is free... and I shouldn't complain about free stuff, right?

But sometimes you get exactly what you pay for... Which, today, is frickin' NOTHING. Well, as far as pics are concerned. At least Blogger is still accepting text-only posts. There's some good in there. Somewhere.

  1. I am having trouble with blogger too. I had to load one pic at a time. Any more than that I got a stupid error message.

  2. I gave up on using Blogger's photo hosting, and have uploaded my photos at Flickr... each gets a unique URL, so it's a snap to use a picture in a Blogger post.

  3. One at a time is how I finally got my pics uploaded today, Ash.

Barry: That thought occurred to me this morning, and I may yet go create a Flickr account. It seems like all The Cool Kids are doing just that...

  4. I no longer use Blogger to upload photos. I use Flickr or Photobucket. I am hoping to come up with an alternative to Blogger for my blogs but so far the alternatives are not so easy to use or to change.

I had trouble with Blogger beginning at 4:00 a.m. when I got up. They must be messing with the code or something.

  5. Ditto what Lincoln said. Moving off the photo server is a separate and distinct thing from moving off Blogger...which I still think you should look at doing, but since you don't wanna, ImageShack is just a wonderful thing and hasn't been hiccupping on me lately.

Which is something they all do at some point or another.

But the Shack seems to be quicker & more reliable than most, and won't tie you down. You need to click the yellow frog. You know you wanna. http://imageshack.us.

  6. Morgan and Abe: Thanks for the tips. I'll look into it...

  7. I was having the same trouble yesterday. I finally uploaded mine to Flickr and that solved that. I have accounts at Flickr, Photobucket, and Webshots, and they are well worth it.

  8. Buck:

Two words - BlueHost and WordPress, don't blog w/out 'em...Much more flexibility to be creative, own your own domain w/o costing an arm and a leg with a pretty decent hosting company (and as a side benefit, you don't get blocked because you have 'blogspot' in your URL). Shoot, even Skippy-san made the transition and knowing Skippy, if *he* can do it... ;)

  9. Steel,

I've been telling Buck his blog is too fine of a work of art to be hosted on Blogger, but you know...old habits and all. I can't criticize him after being held captive by the same forces of nature.

I have to say, I remember from my Blogger days being virtually chained to my desk with this-or-that oh-so-cute system failure. It was as if my dead Mother or some ex-girlfriend was at the controls and thought I should be spending more time out in the sunshine. I expect anyone operating on Blogger has much the same experience.

Not the first to say it and I won't be the last -- you get what you payfer. I'm sure when he's good & tired of it, he'll finally make a move.

    Dang. A challenge... ;-)

Actually, I haven't...for the most part Blogger has been pretty danged reliable for a network app that hosts some 18 million blogs. I remain impressed. As does Ann Althouse, who's been on Blogger since Day One.

I might make the change someday. Maybe.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
