It's Always Sumthin...

…and today’s something is a new 19” wide-screen monitor. I woke up this morning to find the old monitor had given up the ghost sometime in the middle of the night. Dead. No power light, even...and attempts at resuscitation were futile. So, instead of my usual morning drill I put the coffee on, hit the shower, and was off to The Big(ger) CityTM to buy a new monitor. Which was an adventure in and of itself.

Office Max, the only local business that carries computer stuff, allegedly had three of these spiffy monitors in stock. The problem was they couldn’t find any of ‘em. And they looked for all of about a half an hour while I stood around waiting semi-patiently. To cut to the chase: I bought their display model. All the other options in a 19” size were Korean or Chinese off-brands I’d never heard of... so no sale, there. I briefly considered an HP 22” model for only a hundred dollars more (lots of those in stock, of course), but decided against it. My desk just doesn’t have that much available real estate…as you can tell from the pic.

So. I really like this new pretty-picture box. It took me a while to get it set up and run the calibration routines, but all that’s behind me now. So now it’s off to make the rounds and see what’s happening in the world.

Back in a bit.

  1. Oh, nice.

I have had a new one for about 2 weeks now and love it. Mine is a Samsung 20 something. It really does provide more viewing area and living space.

  2. Hi Buck. Last Christmas I bought a new 22 flatscreen for Wild Thing. Turned out she had bought a different brand, same thing for me. We think they're great.

  3. Walmart in P-ville has a few flatscreen monitors, but probably not one you wanted. I'm extremely jealous. That's on my Christmas list (but since Dh bought me a new truck instead, guess it will have to wait).

We were probably two cars passing in the day, was up in Big(ger) town myself. Baby checkup and shots, pictures, shopping, Wendy's. He is really grumpy now, and we still have the school Christmas Program tonight.

  5. Mushy and Cat: I briefly considered a 22"...and if my physical desktop had more real estate I'd have popped for the 22-incher. But I don't so I didn't. Now that the thing is set-up properly and having lived with it for 24 hours or so it's one of those "how did I live this long without it?" kinda things.

Jenny: I very nearly turned into Wally-World before heading on over to Clovis. But I'm highly suspicious of off-brand electronics. I probably shouldn't be, coz all the major 'puter builders slap their house label on no-name electronics. Which, come to think on it, is probably why my old monitor died. It was only three years old, and that pisses me off.

    Is Drew better today?

Lou: Ya, they certainly DO talk funny there, LOL! I see on the WX report you're gonna be cold and windy today. Sounds like a good day for MoMA... ;-)
