Saturday Still Life...

...w/o Woodpecker. But I digress, yet again before I’ve even begun. I partook of two of these hefeweizens and one of those wonderful VL's during half-time of the ND - Navy game, which is still in progress with the outcome uncertain...as we speak. The first one was unabashedly and without remorse for me. But the second one? That was all for you, Gentle Reader.

Now purists might blanch at the thought of a Hefeweizen that doesn't sprechen Sie Deutsches, but believe me, Gentle Reader...this is good stuff, indeed. If products from the Spoetzel Brewery are available in your area...and in a lot of cases, they're not... you should pick up a sixer and try it out. You won't be sorry.

Prosit!

Update 11/03/2007, 1702 hrs: Well, the NCAA's longest winning streak...at 43 games, stretching back to 1963... is over. Navy 46, ND 44. In triple overtime. I'll give ya a conditional "BZ," Navy. But if you didn't do it this year, against this Irish team, chances are you couldn't have ever done it. To say my heart is breaking would be an understatement of massive proportions.

But...it is what it is. My weekend is flat frickin' ruined.

  1. Did you find that stuff in P-ville, or is it brought in from elsewhere?

You washed the new bike, how 'bout the old car? All the hay is baled, we could use a rain one of these days soon. Hubby just set us up a nice weatherstation thingie he got off ebay, need to see if the rain-gauge-that-measures-and-dumps-automatically-then-reports-in-the-house works.

  2. Bought out at the base, Jenny. The BX has a surprisingly good selection of beers. But, OTOH, it's not so surprising. We AF'ers do have good taste! I dunno if this particular flavor of Shiner is generally available in P-Ville, but I don't see why not. If it isn't and you want to give it a try, just give me a shout. I'll pick you up a sixer on my next run out to the base.

The car got washed the following day. No sense in overdoing it, eh? ;-)

Pretty cool about your rain gauge...and yeah, we could use a lil rain.

  3. My man!

Oh, except that I rooted for Navy!

It was a very good game...but the LSU/ALA game was even better!

  4. Sorry about ND, but I just gotta say: Go NAVY! The last time Navy beat ND, Roger Staubach was the quarterback. That blew my mind.

On the bright side, Air Force won. That LSU game was the kicker. I think I'm giving up football again. Until tomorrow at least.

  5. Shiner is awesome, and I love a nice hefeweizen. Besides, those folks in SHiner are pretty durned German, if you ask me. Good stuff!

  6. Mushy sez: ...but the LSU/ALA game was even better!

Well, "better" is relative. I switched over to the LSU game after ND lost. One of these days LSU ain't gonna pull it out...

Becky: Why am I NOT surprised you'd be rooting for Navy? Hmmm? As noted elsewhere, I have serious mixed emotions when AF plays ND. Next week will be interesting...

Phlegmmy: Visiting the lil brewery in Shiner has always been on my "to do" list but has never made it up high enough to justify a trip on its own. The last time I was near there I was doing a speed-run between Houston and San Antonio, with no time for a diversion.

  7. LSU or Michigan? Who gets the most breaks from the Officials?

Both teams should have been beaten like ugly step children....as for Notre Dame...was good to see Navy get that monkey off their backs, but I do feel for my Uncle Jack...having his first season as a Irish Usher turning out like this......

And the Buckeys keep rolling along...

  8. As you know, I'm not a big sports fan... I'd rathr play than watch any sport. But it does make me smile to hear that Navy won.

    Go Navy!(again)

    And here I thought "blood was thicker than water." {sigh}

  10. I watched part of the OSU/UT game - it was a nail-biter, but as my son said, OSU managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Then I watched the LSU/ALA game - pretty good stuff.

  11. Now I didn't say I was for LSU, or Ala...it was just a good game.

I am for the SEC when it comes to National play!

  12. Pat sez: LSU or Michigan? Who gets the most breaks from the Officials?

Neither, from my POV. LSU got the HELL penalized out of 'em Saturday, and they deserved every single one. Can't say about the Michigan game, as it wasn't televised in my area. But overall...I think the officiating these days is about as good as it's ever gonna get, especially with video review/replays.

    Homer! :-)

Lou: I don't think UT - OSU was available here... but I did read about it.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
