So. While I may be back home, I’m certainly not “back in the groove,” whatever that means. Do I sound confused? Well, yes, I suppose I do. I’m working through this confusion, albeit slowly, and am trying to figure out just what’s up…
Take yesterday. Normally I “make the rounds” (defined as reading my favorite blogs and several news sources) first thing in the morning while working a pot of coffee. I didn’t read a single blog yesterday, and I didn’t look at the NYT, or the WaPo, or The Times (
Vacations are supposed to rejuvenate, restore the spirit, rest the body, yadda, yadda, yadda. And this is certainly the result of my latest excursion, in part. Well, except for the “rest the body” bit…ten hours in the saddle on the last day of the trip might better be described as low-level torture to…ahem… “a man of my age.” I still hurt, but only just a lil bit. But I digress…
There seems to be an unintended, unanticipated consequence(s) to my 17-day sojourn and I can’t quite put my finger on it, as yet. Maybe it’s time for a change? But what sort of change? A change in locale? Button up the RV and move on down the road? To where? Change in lifestyle, as in (for example) seek employment, again? Start looking for a new relationship? Is it a case of my senses and sensibilities being over-stimulated these past two and a half weeks? Am I resentful about returning to what I now perceive to be a rather mundane existence? I don’t know…
Sorry for the oh-so-personal bout of introspection. But I want to get it “on the record,” and that’s one of the reasons I blog, ya know.
I’ll whip through the last of the chores today, the first of which involves a jaunt out to the base for a major re-supply run. I’m looking forward to that, as I haven’t driven the Green Hornet in so long I may have forgotten how. I’m sure it will come right back to me…
And the second? That involves stopping into Yucca Telecom and asking just where the Hell my fiber internet connection is, now that it’s JUNE. I was told back in March or April I’d get connected “in May, June at the latest.” I wanna know what the flippin' story is....
Gonna be warm today…hot, even. The forecast says a high of 91 degrees. We had a few anxious moments last evening around sunset as some spectacular t-storms moved through the area, just to the north and east of us. I took some pictures of the cloud formations I’ll post later in the week. Today’s pic will be more from Arches…
Speaking of which: here are two views of Balanced Rock…which may be one of the most photographed formations in all of Arches. It IS breathtaking, on numerous levels.
Ya know, IF you do decide to up and move, toy might consider moving south-east. If you did than I would have someone to road trip with. Just adding my two-cents, Ya know, trying to be helpful.
ReplyDeleteBIG "if," Dan! Inertia is my greatest enemy. But, you make some fine points...especially the road-tripping thingie.
ReplyDeleteI'm under advisement...
Maybe if I just touch that rock a little bit, it would fall over! Sure looks like it, anyway. Amazing!
ReplyDeleteI can't see what keeps you in P-ville. I kinda like it, but for a retired bachelor living in an RV, I would think life on the road would suit you. Go somewhere, stay a month or so, and move on. If you do leave, we will have to all get together before you do. If you do leave, will your trailer haul both the Green Hornet AND 'Zuki?
Tastee Freeze was right across the street from McDs, behind Allsups. Where Wagon Wheel was. Wagon Wheel didn't go belly up because of bad business. The owners got a divorce and couldn't decide who should get the place (sad. That was another business that had been around a long time in an off the path location. Over off S Ave B and 16th or 17th, I think. I ate there the day I moved to Portales, when my 2 best friends and I moved into the dorms on campus). So I guess they sold and divided up the money. La Hacienda has actually been around for 30 years, but over somewhere around N Ave K (or L, M, N. Not sure which, they all look the same). Good homemade Mexican food, but I'm real partial to El Rancho (sopapillas come with the meal, and we know some of the Garcia's that own it).
And looks like businesses may be coming into the area as well. If you ventured from your place to Walmart, you may have noticed that the lot at 2nd and Abilene (across from Portales National Bank) has been leveled (thanks to my Uncle Joe, who did the dirty work) and something may go there. Also across from El Rancho a place that sells boats has moved into a new building there. A new bank will be where those horrible apartments were by the Sonic, and concrete has been poured for a mini strip mall in front of Walmart. Oh, and the overpass on 467 (Airbase Hwy) has been completed and officially opened today!
Now, if only Alva Carter (owns the Ford/Dodge place) would get off his ass and FINISH those fuel pumps he's been working on for the past 4 years...
The "oh-so-personal bout of introspection" is nothing to apologize for - like you said - it is why we blog. It seems like things are going along smoothly and then life changes - seasons change. We need something new. Sometimes we have a choice in the matter - sometimes not. I just upped my volunteer work with Soldiers' Angels - I was feeling like I need a change - more to keep me occupied and my brain functioning. I should do more art, but I need/want more social situations. We will see what happens. I think I need a kick-start.
ReplyDeleteJenny...
ReplyDeletere: The La Hacienda... NOW I got it! ;-)
re: Why I stay in P-Ville. Fairly good weather, good facilities at Cannon, friendly people, reasonable cost of living, safe. All those things are pretty important to a guy staring old age in the face.
re: If I DO leave/trailer... the OLD motorcycle and the Green Hornet fit nicely on my car hauler. I could probably MAKE the 'Zuki fit, as well, but it sure would be a push. And I'd need help horsing that pig around ("pig" being a reference to her size and weight -- only).

Me, too. A good woman used to provide that sort of thing in my life...
;-)
Buck - from reading your archives and all of your travels and the places you've lived, it would seem to me that you have a bit more wanderlust in you than the average individual.
ReplyDeleteIndulge it.

ReplyDeleteThat certainly used to be true, Kris. I'm not so sure it still is. Which is one of the things I'm struggling with...i.e., is it still true? Or is it not?
That and the price of gas!
;-)
