Anniversary

The blog is one year old today. I’ve put up 690 posts and been honored with 10,293 visits during the past year. Time sure flies when you’re having fun!

Many, many thanks to Frequent Readers and commenters Bec, Becky, Dale, Dan, dc, Laurie, Lou, Mike, Reese, SN1, SN2, and Steve. And thanks also to the “mystery readers” in California (2), Colorado (2), New Jersey, Texas (2), and Virginia…you who stop by often but never say anything! It’s a toss-up as to the greatest reward I’ve received from blogging… either the new friends I’ve made, or the connections renewed. Both are great, and I thank you.

  1. Happy Anniversary! I think I missed mine. It was last week I think, because a couple of my first posts were about Marine's 230th Birthday and Valour-IT.

  2. Congrats Buck, and thank you for enjoyable reading!

Hey Lou take a look at the big word Buck use today "ostensibly"! It took me three trys to copy it over to my comments.

Buck you'll need to read Lou's blog today to understand the last bit! Anyway, thanks again for some great reads!!

  3. Thanks for some interesting reading Buck. Job well done.

  4. Heh, probably some sort of comment to be made about blogging about a picture taken while blogging.

Congrats on one year. I think my 2 year is coming up sometime soon, but I dunno if it even really counts...me and blogging reminds me of the on-again/off-again relationship I had in high school...anniversaries kind of stopped being as important because I couldn't keep track of all of them.

  5. Congrats Dad!

Life is always better after stopping by EiP!

    Talk to you later!

Couldn't have said it better myself, aftcapbuck!
Felicidades, el Capitan d'El Casa Móvil De Pennington! Love the photo of you, Buck. Reading your caption, Your Humble Scribe, ostensibly tapping out today’s post... just made me want to say, "Awwww, there's Buck!"

And Happy Anniversary to you, too, Laurie! :)

I love how all you guys share your weather and give each other a heads up when the strong stuff's coming. I feel kind of isolated over here on the West Coast. :(

(Nothing new on my blog yet. Good intentions for today, but life (work) intervenes once more.)

  7. Happy anniversary! I think I have been following your blog for almost a year - I will have to go back and see when I found you. You have been a great source of information and lots of fun - a good blogger friend. Thanks!

Lindsay was at the house last night when I said something like, "Buck said ...." Lindsay said, "Do you even know Buck?" My chin went up. We argued about it for a minute, and she said, "Toby, I think you should be worried about your wife and her friendship with a man she doesn't know." Of course, she was just messin with me.

My blogger friendships are pretty special. They are the reason I am addicted to the computer.

  8. Happy anniversary Buck. You're not gonna believe this, but today is my blog anniversary, too!

Funny how life works out. I found your blog purely by accident, by pushing the "Next Blog" button on the toolbar. Now I consider you a friend. I couldn't imagine a day without a visit to Portales.

  9. I'm one of the "mystery" readers in Texas. Enjoy your take on life. Thanks

  11. Wow! Only one year? I'd say that's about how long ago I first came here. Was it from Neptunus Lex? A search about the fire? I don't remember.

Struck me as a seasoned established site at the time, and that I was lucky to find it in my own (large geographical) backyard.

Well, apparently the "seasoned" part shined through, in that the site is just the medium and the quality of the content is the real indication of the establishment.

  12. "Ostensibly tapping out today's post" you say. I do, too. Look at the fingers, poised over ASDF JKL:. We ain't buyin' it. You admitted you're hunter/pecker.

And that expression-- reminds me of that bald eagle picture with the caption "I _am_ smiling!"

Love the flannel shirt. A familiar look, sir.

  13. Wow. Thank you all so very much!

I should have noted that three of my friends--Becky, Laurie, and Lou-- have been hanging around here since the beginning, or within days/hours thereof. As I said in the post, it's hard to say which is best about blogging, the new friends, or old connections renewed.

And Jim in Texas: thanks for ID'ing yourself! Pleased to meetcha!!

  14. Reese: I think you originally dropped in from Lex's place, but our first conversation was indeed about that wildfire just south of us last year. And thanks for the kind remarks, even about my (lack of) typing skills!

  15. I think I started hanging around maybe end of December or January. I remember finding a mutual friend of ours from a Christmas post that was exceptional. Then maybe saw you commenting there a few times, then found you here and saw a pic or something about Rochester. So, no I don't think I was here within hours or days, but close ;)

  16. Well, I have the honor of saying that Buck picked me up from the Mahablog...
Or, should I say, rescued me?

A million thanks for that, Buck! You were an important catalyst in my political and philosophical direction and your blog has been a welcoming environment for that big change in my life. For that, you'll always have an important place in my heart.

And Becky, I can't believe you found Buck by clicking on Next Blog! Talk about luck! For all of us :) Congrats on your anniversary, too!

  17. Bec said: Well, I have the honor of saying that Buck picked me up from the Mahablog...

    Damn, Bec! That sounds so...so... tawdry! {Big, BIG ol' grin!} {coz it's hard to do humor in print}

Ya know, SN1 and I talked a bit about you, back when your conversion was going on. And we both agreed that you were right smart! And entertaining, too! I'm pleased to have been of service, quite seriously.

Now, if I could just get my friend Lori to see the light and cross over to the Dark Side (to mix a couple of metaphors). I'm beginning to give up hope, however. She's about as dyed in the wool Lib as they come...

  18. Wow,
    I got "mentioned in despatches"!

I am not a blogger, since I'm probably not as interesting as Buck and his blog buddies (Lex!). And I am lazy, too!

I have enjoyed your reasonable commentary, Buck, and like the spirit of the folks who respond. Plus, I know what it is like to be "exiled in paradise". Hope to do it again...

Best of luck, for the next year!

Glad you liked it, Buck. ;)
However... as I recall now, you thought I was a guy... Hmmm. Aw, shucks. Thanks for the compliment.

Now, if I could just get my friend Lori to see the light and cross over to the Dark Side

That's easy. Just send her over to Maha's.

One last thing. I remember you telling me once, in a respectful, gentle way, that I was smart and curious and that I'd figure it out. That was the nicest encouragement, Buck. You must be a great Dad. It's exactly what my own dad would say and it's why I respect and care about him, too. (Blush)

  20. Bec said: However... as I recall now, you thought I was a guy... Hmmm.

True, but you cleared that misconception up in short order! And I could further say "that was then, this is now..."

    :-)

Thanks once again, for the kind words!!

  21. I might be one of the lurkers in Cali. Happy anniversary!

Hey...come to think on it, I think my second just came & went. Glad to have you around, Buck, and thanks for your service.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
