More Bits and Bytes

There was a lot of interesting stuff in the overnight mail today.  Herewith three of those items...

First... a political 'toon.

Heh.  I'll spare you the double-entendres that immediately came to my mind.

No dysfunction HERE:

Air Frame: A B-1B Lancer flies over northern Iraq after conducting air strikes in Syria against ISIS targets, Sept. 27, 2014. The strikes were conducted as part of the President's comprehensive strategy to degrade and ultimately destroy the terrorist organization. (Air Force photo by SrA. Matthew Bruch) (click to embiggen)
Bad to the BONE... make sure you embiggen this pic.

An altogether different flying experience... which would be a suite at 30K feet.  A couple o' screen caps from a VERY interesting article:

This piece might be the most extensively-documented photographic essay I've ever seen, on any subject.  See "What It's Like to Fly the $23,000 Singapore Airlines Suites Class" here.  It's simply freaking amazing; the food alone might be worth the ticket price.

In other news... we got our inter-tubes connection upgraded from 5 Mbps to 100 Mbps this morning.  The difference is astounding... web pages don't load on the screen now, they POP.  I think this is pretty amazing for a dusty lil rural town of only 12 and a half thousand people.

    1. How'd I do it? A quick phone call to my ISP yesterday and a visit from a tech-guy this morning to switch out a card. I could have gone with GIGABIT service but I think 100 Yankee Dollars a month for inter-tubes is a bit much.

  2. Hi, it's Laurie! Tried saying hi yesterday but this Google / Blogger log in thing doesn't seem to be working for me. So anyway, "hi!"

    1. If you're thinking of the airline... Singapore is a very cosmopolitan city-state with a diverse population and the country isn't predominately Muslim. From The Wiki:

Buddhism is the most widely practised religion in Singapore, with 33% of the resident population declaring themselves adherents at the most recent census. The next-most practised religion is Christianity, followed by Islam, Taoism, and Hinduism. 17% of the population did not have a religious affiliation. The proportion of Christians, Taoists, and non-religious people increased between 2000 and 2010 by about 3% each, whilst the proportion of Buddhists decreased. Other faiths remained largely stable in their share of the population. An analysis by the Pew Research Center found Singapore to be the world's most religiously diverse nation.

  4. Um - wow. We flew first class for the first time last fall - and it was heaven. I can't imagine what this would be like...not that I'll ever find out at those prices. And I thought garden-variety first class was pricey!

    1. I've never flown in First... but I HAVE done a few trips in BizClass, which was definitely worth the money across the Pacific.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
