In keeping with the post immediately below this one...
That's from the "Live at Fillmore East" album and features Duane playin' some absolutely INCENDIARY slide guitar. My favorite Allman Bros track, evah.

Magnificent album, of course. I like the loooooong take on Whipping Post best, but that's probably because Berry Oakley has the intro and I'm a bass player...
ReplyDeleteGood stuff! It's getting me going this a.m.
ReplyDelete@ Jim: Hard to fault "Whipping Post."
ReplyDelete@ Dan: Glad I could help!
Gregg told a story that he injured Duane somehow (sorry my mind is going) and he left a jar of pills on his stoop rang the bell and ran off, because Duane was really pissed at him. A week or so later Duane calls him and says "get over here, this is really neat". (words to that affect). Turns out he could slip two fingers into the pill glass (they were glass in them-there days (doncha-no) and use it as a slide. Gregg says he still has the jar (somehwre around). Funny story. I tried searching the story, but it was on PBS about the Muscle Shoals (southern rock) sound.
ReplyDeleteThanks for that, jar. I'd never heard the story before.
