Today's Happy Hour Soundtrack: A Fat Tuesday Extravaganza

Well... here we are, wishin' we were down in N'Awlins for the party to end all parties.  But, alas, we are NOT.  The next best thing?  N'Awlins music for Happy Hour, courtesy o' the Mardi Gras station on meTunes Radio.  We'll begin with Dr. John...

Mac Rebennack is usually the first musician to come to mind when one thinks "N'Awlins music."  But there's more... like this:

Well, OK... not exactly N'Awlins music, but the set and setting is appropriate, if only for the ONE French phrase 90% of Americans know.  Back to N'Awlins... we need some zydeco!

Ah, toi!  Let's not forget the traditionalists...

And you know there just might be more...

In other news... now that that unwanted and unwelcome guest... the polar vortex, resident here on The High Plains o' New Mexico for these last two days... has decamped for more appropriate climes, which is to say Up Nawth, we called Happy Hour early today.  That's mainly coz (a) we can and (b) it's simply brilliant out on the verandah at this very moment. We're currently sitting at 60 degrees and we're on our way to a forecast high o' 66... with very light winds and brilliant sunshine.  Perfect, in other words.  So let us get back out there to continue as we've begun.

  1. It is 26 degrees here right now; they are trumpeting a "warming trend" for later this week with temps - in the 40s. I'll take it.

  3. Well I see blogger has disappeared my comments again. For swamp-rock zydeco check out Wayne Toups (white) & Clifton Chenier. (black) For classic rock/Blues check out Slim Harpo (blues Harp) Dead now but THE all-time great blues harpist, hailing from just west of B.R on western side of river. My fraternity had him and his band for our Spring Formal (Skid Reaux Ball) my freshman yr in 1963! New Orleans blues legend Erma Thomas worth checking out, as well as a now passed classic jazz pianist and singer "Sweet Emma" Barrett. (Last saw her play at Mardis Gras '69 in old Supreme Court bldg on Dauphine St two yrs after she suffered a stroke.)

On which post, Virgil? I checked my spam folder and you're not in there, same with the "awaiting moderation" folder. I'm familiar with all the artists you mentioned, save Sweet Emma Barret. I'll check her out.
