And that would be just be'coz the tune* makes me grin... a LOT.
And now it's back out to the verandah for to enjoy yet another brilliant Fall day... about 68 degrees, full sun, cloudless skies, and dead still. We ain't gonna have too many more o' these so we gots to get 'em while the gettin's good.

( Iris Dement )
She don't like her eggs all runny
She thinks crossin' her legs is funny
She looks down her nose at money
She gets it on like the Easter Bunny
She's my baby I'm her honey
I'm never gonna let her go
He ain't got laid in a month of Sundays
I caught him once and he was sniffin' my undies
He ain't too sharp but he gets things done
Drinks his beer like it's oxygen
He's my baby
And I'm his honey
Never gonna let him go
In spite of ourselves
We'll end up a'sittin' on a rainbow
Against all odds
Honey, we're the big door prize
We're gonna spite our noses
Right off of our faces
There won't be nothin' but big old hearts
Dancin' in our eyes.
She thinks all my jokes are corny
Convict movies make her horny
She likes ketchup on her scrambled eggs
Swears like a sailor when shaves her legs
She takes a lickin'
And keeps on tickin'
I'm never gonna let her go.
He's got more balls than a big brass monkey
He's a wacked out werido and a lovebug junkie
Sly as a fox and crazy as a loon
Payday comes and he's howlin' at the moon
He's my baby I don't mean maybe
Never gonna let him go
In spite of ourselvesI don't usually post the entire lyrics to any given song but this one's an exception, mainly coz the grin-factor is right off the charts. The secret to True Love is embedded herein, as well.

OT, but in re my Holloween post I DID (conditionally) accept your offer in a detailed reply as to frequency of posts required, etc., and my lack of HTML "fu" I got a "success" signal on my send msg, so when I didn't receive a reply assumed you'd lost interest and wasn't about to beg--I should have followed up..
ReplyDeletePlease resend that note, Virgil. I never received it.

DeleteBuck, I really love this song and posted it without much comment back in 2011 (http://cumberlandpost.blogspot.com/2011/07/in-spite-of-ourselves.html); like you say it does make a person grin. Prine's lyrics are amazing (he makes it seem so easy) and his vocal pairing here with Iris (in my top three list of female vocalists) just knocks me out. Your remark about the "secret to true love" being embedded in this song is, I will testify from my own experience at least, right on the mark. Thanks for this and the grin which now seems to be stuck on my face.
ReplyDeleteYou posted a MUCH higher quality video than I did, Dan. And Iris is just too, TOO good lookin', ain't she?
