A Brief Follow-Up

I mentioned one of the best parts about our recent trip Back East was re-connecting with old friends Chip and Kathy.  I posted this pic of the three of us...

That was now, these were then... c.1978:

What a great looking couple, eh?

Thanks, Sam.  You da MAN.

I hope you don't catch up to us anytime soon.

  2. Nice! They were and are a great-looking couple. My flight was one of the last to wear that LOVELY style of chapeau, I believe (1989).

  3. LOVE the last pic - so sweet. It is such great fun to reconnect like that. We did something similar in Orlando just a couple of weeks ago. Amazing how time can pass but the connections of real friendship remain tight.

    1. It really is amazing how one can just pick up where one left off with old friends, isn't it?

  4. Dad,
I'm only sorry it took so long to find them and get them to you... but very happy you have them now.

  6. It's interesting that I had no exposure to the military. One day I remember recruiters coming to our high school, but they weren't interested in the girls, they seemed to be offering an alternative to the draft. I remember two boys from our English class dropped out the Senior year and joined the Marines (they survived the Vietnam war even).

But there was no JROTC, Civil Air Patrol, or any of the great programs that attract young people.

My parents were teachers, so my fate was an education degree, before I could collect my dowry.

Oh! And the pictures of youth against maturity are just darling. They are a lucky couple.

Yet another thing you kinda-sorta share with The Second Mrs. Pennington. Her Mom was a teacher and she HAD to graduate with her maiden name attached before we married.

Thanks for the kind words about the photos and I agree: C&K are lucky, indeed. But luck takes a lot of hard work, too.

  7. Wow. Over the years I let all the pictures and mementos of that time slip away from me and then I went home last summer and found that my parents had kept most of it. I decided it was worth keeping and digitized it to carry with me. The part I haven't done yet is to put captions on the pictures. Just a matter of time.
In 1978 I moved for the 12th time and finished high school the following year.

    Oh, and what OldAFsarge said.

    1. Digitizing the archives is a LOT o' work. I've scanned some of my old photos for use on the blog but the pics that remain are nearly all stuck in albums (thanks to The Second Mrs. Pennington).

      Oh, and what OldAFsarge said.

And what **I** said to Chris: I hope neither of you catches up in the near future.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
