A Helluva Way to Wake Up

Police work the scene on M St., SE in Washington near the Washington Navy Yard. The U.S. Navy said that three shots were fired around 8:20 a.m. at the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters building, where about 3,000 people work.

I got a call from SN2 about a half-hour ago; he wanted to let me know he's OK.  He led with "Did I wake you up?" and I replied that no, I'd been up for at least five minutes.  Then he told me about the shooting in the Navy Yard.  The shooter(s) were two floors above him in his building and everyone in his area is OK.  It sure as Hell could have been worse...

  1. That is too close for comfort - makes me have that sick feeling. I'm glad all is okay with SN2. I'm sure he is not all that okay - lots of emotions.

    1. Sam sounded pretty calm when he called, but something like this usually takes a while to sink in.

    1. Thanks about the FB posting, Chris. I'm glad the Nuke wasn't in this mess.

    2. Amen to that. The Nuke is worried though, her Chief on the Ike works in 197, she's been trying to get a hold of him. With no success so far. Keep your fingers crossed!

  10. I imagine that was one phone call that you were grateful for. Even not knowing what was happening at the time of the call, even if it woke you.

I can't understand what is going on with this stuff. As we start learning of his history, it makes this even more puzzling as to how he was there in the first place.

Glad the outcome for you and your family was good.

I just have so little faith in the current regime that when these things occur now, I am left wondering if our government had some hand in it so they can push "gun control". None of these shootings make much sense. I don't go along with conspiracy theories, but there are too many of these that leave you wondering, like how did he even get that shot gun on base? How was he hired with his record, let alone given clearance?

We live in a world that seems to be rapidly going out of control. It seems as though we are ruled by insanity.

So glad that your son is safe.

    1. You're SO right about the call, Jim. Sam didn't wake me, but he was close. As for conspiracy theories... I don't think the gub'mint is involved in these shootings, except for the fact that gub'mints on ALL levels are pretty clueless when it comes to handling the mentally ill or people with severe psychological problems. I don't have any idea about how to fix that but I do believe our deficient mental health system is a big contributor to the problem.

As for this shooter... I agree with you: how the HELL did that guy ever get a clearance?

  11. Buck,
I've been meaning to stop by and catch up for the past week or two, but just found time this morning. I read about this craziness earlier in the week but it didn't cross my mind that anyone I know of could have been there. I'm so glad to hear your son is okay.
