Today's Happy Hour Soundtrack

Anna Nalick singin' about sumthin' that's kinda hard for me to do...

Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table.
No one can find the rewind button, boys,
So cradle your head in your hands,
And breathe... just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe
Breathe.  We all take our breath for granted until such time as it goes away and mine's been goin' away for about the last six or seven years.  I don't go on about self-inflicted wounds all that much in these pages or anywhere else, for that matter, mainly because they're self-inflicted.  No cryin' or whinin' allowed, in other words.

But, that said... we're about to go on full-time oxygen for our COPD.  We had a battery of pulmonary tests run today and the results weren't too terribly good.  They sucked, in fact.  So it looks like I'm gonna be hooked up to a frickin' machine for the rest of my life, such that it is.  But, Hey... we knew this was comin'.

It's always SUMTHIN'.

Man, it's dusty in here tonight. I'll be thinking of you Buck. Hang in there.

  2. Those machines have come a long way and are pretty portable - better than it use to be, anyway.

It reminded me of a friend's mother that was quite the amazing lady. Anne had COPD in her older age - also coming from a generation where smoking was the norm. She was a tall handsome woman who had lost her Navy husband in some accident. She raised two beautiful, awesome children on a teacher's salary in Northern NM. She always spoke her mind and said something meaningful. Everyone loved that woman, with her husky voice and laugh. Yet she could scare the crap out of us kids - we all behaved around her. You have lots in common with her. Thanks for bringing up good memories. Sorry about your COPD.

    1. You're right about those machines, they're much better than they used to be. And thanks for the kind words about your former teacher... it's flattered I am.

Remember not to light up with the cannula in your nose, or POOF, there go your eyebrows!

  5. Keep smiling, me old mucker, things are never so bad they couldn't be worse. Not that THAT is much consolation, I don't suppose. Just keep the beer flowing.

    2. I've heard wisdom is attributed to those who remain mostly silent

    3. @IT: Yup. That ol' saw about people thinkin' yer stoopid and opening yer mouth to CONFIRM the fact holds true.

  7. "...we're about to go on full-time oxygen for our COPD"

Well, cripes, how'd I miss that?

    Is someone gonna deliver?

Or will ya have to go pick up?

As you might guess, I know very little about COPD, though I've been told I have chronic bronchitis (probably because I smoked for over 50 years)

    1. The days of towing oxygen bottles behind you wherever you go are passed. These days you have a small machine... slightly larger than a six-pack... that you sling over yer shoulder. Yay, technology!

I smoked for about 50 years, too... about a pack and a half a day... which is the source of my self-inflicted wound.

    2. Sorry to learn about the COPD. That sucks.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
