Today's Happy Hour Soundtrack: Thwarted

So it came to pass this Ol' Girl and I were having a conversation about cooking recently.  She seemed somewhat surprised when I mentioned that I was a damned good cook, not just passable, but GOOD.  I asked her how she thought I survived as a single man without bein' able to cook and she answered with sumthin' to the effect of "well, you can eat out... and there's frozen food."  All well and good, sez I, but I enjoy cooking when the mood strikes.  I watch cooking shows, too.

She:  You watch COOKING SHOWS?
Me:  Two words: Nigella Lawson.
She:  I know why you watch Nigella... she ain't ALL about cooking.

Well... true, dat.  One of my favorite fantasies always ends with Nigella serving me breakfast in bed.  And this is where we get to the "thwarted" bits in this post.  I wanted to post Joan Osborne's "Breakfast In Bed" but the video simply doesn't exist on the Tube o' You or anywhere else, for that matter.  The lyrics to that tune fit what I was tryin' to get across, to wit:
Breakfast in bed
And a kiss or three
You don't have to say you love me
Breakfast in bed
Nothing need be said
Ain't no need
So, absent the tune o' choice we'll do the next best thing and post sumthin' else by Joan:

Just pretend you're hearing "Breakfast In Bed," mmm-kay?  Further: Aretha would be PROUD.

  1. Cooking Shows? Man O' Man, I'm right their with you. I'm fascinated by those shows. And if you lived in New Orleans you'd be in HOG HEAVEN! Besides the food channel, etc, the local PBS channel carries not only all the shows by local Louisiana Chefs, but the best nationally from EVERY section of the country from Oregon PBS (John & Caprial--husband & wife restauranteers) to NYC and Bobby Flay to BBQ Univ at the Greenbriar in W. Va. My wife, a scratch Creole-Cajun cook from Opelousas normally eschews such shows--she should be teaching THEM--she's THAT good! SRSLY! (But she loves to watch the baking shows--she's NOT a baker.)

    1. You're blessed, Virgil, with a wife who can cook. Remember that ol' saw: "Sex don't last. Cookin' do."

  5. I found perfection in the kitchen and never saw the point in adding to it. There are 10,000 things I've never cooked and never will. Already I find that I don't miss them. :)

    1. There's a lot of stuff I won't cook because of the complexity... mainly coz I don't like the clean-up involved. But that said, there's a lot of stuff I DO cook!

  6. I may not look like Nigella, but LouElla can cook. No, I'm more of an Emeril fan or Giada. How come you don't dream of Paula Dean?

    1. I KNOW LouElla can cook... and I don't know why I don't dream of Paula, coz I loves me some BUTTER!
