    1. I worry more about Ducks than Crips. Then again, I don't live in El-Eh, either.

  2. Because Big Time is a Red Wings fan, I do like them.

However, round these parts, is all Bruins, all the time.

I do believe your mileage does vary!

Not a lot, actually. I watched the B's beat up on the hapless Leafs last night, which was satisfying... mainly coz I go back far enough to hate me some Leafs, a LOT. But you ARE right, in a way, seein' as how the Beloved Wings and the B's will be in the same division next year. Things might could get ugly. ;-)

    1. NOTHING is more satisfying than being a good "hater" in the sports/hockey world, right, Buck? :)

    2. Yer right... at least as far as hockey goes. And college ball, too. Other than that I wouldn't know. ;-)

  4. Speaking of ice & skates, does Portales have a public (or Private) skating rink? And, btw, fwiw, wonder how many NHL fans Portales has? GOT to be some sports-bars in town carrying the series besides the NBA playoffs, eh? You never can tell from one town to the next. Pre KATRINA circa 2003-2005 a sports-bar uptown called the "Underground" (superimposed on London Tube sign) attempted to be the center of all things UK (and European) Soccer with direct multiple Sat feeds, etc. (They had GREAT food, btw) with interior decked out like English Pub complete with a separate sitting area, etc plus Darts, etc., and run by some Brits but inexplicably failed--can't believe there weren't enough Brit refugees in area to make a go of it. It was also just across the st from a maj Hosp uptown (Touro Infirmary) in a residential setting just off St. Charles Ave, so there was that traffic as well...you just never know..

(Actually I've a good guess, the drinking age was still 18 in La at that time and it became a boisterous hang-out for drunken freshmen--the very oppo of what being attempted by ownership)

    1. PS: meant to say that the 18 crowd is prob what drove the soccer crowd away despite the fact UK soccer fans ain't shy--but they were definitely an older, professional crowd..)

    2. P-Ville doesn't have a rink OR a sports bar, we're waaaay too small for that. One of our local restaurants does have a nice bar, however, and the barman CAN be persuaded to put a hockey game on. I've watched the Wings in there from time to time, but the viewing is MUCH better at home, mainly coz my teevee is larger, the beer is cheaper, and I can burn a cigar, too.

I'm surprised that English pub failed. I would have patronized the place... not for the futbol, which I don't give a big rat's ass about... but for the BEER, which I DO care about.

This is why I have to kiss ass and order kegs the hard way. The BEER is that important!

    4. Yer a man after my own heart, Darryl, except for that PBR thing, which I can't quite get my head around. :-)

    5. @Virgil: Fergot to mention: hockey fans in P-Ville amount to me and a handful of Air-Peeps out at Cannon Airplane Patch. I've seen a couple o' Yzerman jerseys and more than a few Wings bumper stickers on the base. No Steenkin' 'Hawks fans, though.

  5. ABQ needs an NHL Franchise. It might be a fun game to pick a name for the club. "Magpies," maybe? "Sand Devils?" "///...well, never mind...

Not really all that good an idea on second thought.

    2. Yeah, I forgot how small Portales actually is--almost exactly same size as my hometown of Charleston, Ill which also has an "Eastern" (Illinois) Univ.like Portales. Believe it or not Louisiana is/was full of minor-league hocky teams/ There's the Lafayate IceGators of the Southern Professional League, the Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hocky League, The Baton Rouge Kingfish of the East coast Hocky League (1996-2003--now the Vancouver "Victoria Salmon Kings") and we had the New Orleans Brass (1997-2002) of the ECHL who made the play-offs every year and won three titles.

The Brass left because the cash-strapped city tried to hold 'em up by forcing them to pay for ice-plant for conversion from BB floor to ice floor in the N.O. Arena (home of NBA Hornets) They had previously played in old 30s Muni Auditorium which DID have a functioning ice-plant, but they replaced their floor after Brass left and didn't replace the ice-pipes (another penny-wise pound foolish affair) so Brass had no home so they folded. (FWIW the 1st Radio voice of the Brass is now the voice of the Ducks on radio)

  6. Of course I am. It was one of those "sounded like a good idea at the time, until I thought about it for four more seconds" deals...

    1. Yeah... and I failed to mention the fact I'd **hate** to have to drive four hours, one way, to go to a hockey game when the Wings came to town. Coz you know I'd HAVE to do that.

    I'm being ironic...

  8. I had one of those silly flag thangies on my car one time. It drove me crazy. So, while driving down the highway with it flapping and making an irritating noise, I rolled down the window to remove the flag. It went flying, duh! I did not stop to get it.
