Today's Happy Hour Soundtrack

We seem to gettin' most of our musical ideers from XM these days and today is no exception.  I heard this while I was oot and aboot this afternoon...

You are here and warm
But I could look away and you'd be gone
Cause we live in a time
When meaning falls in splinters from our lives
That would be Fleetwood Mac, of course, with Bob Welch on lead guitar and vocals.  The Bare Trees album got LOTS of air play back in the day when it first hit the stores.  I was livin' the Good Life in Klamath Falls, Oregon at the time.  Sorta.

Mr. Welch recorded the tune a few years later on one of his solo albums, to wit:

Both versions are worthy, both versions call up memories from Former Happy Days, but in radically different circumstances.  French Kiss was released in 1977 when I was livin' the REALLY Good Life in Westby, Montana... the last year of my second childhood.  The Second Mrs. Pennington and I married the following year and I settled down after that.  Sorta.

OK... Beer Me!  Outdoors!

  1. I really liked Bob Welch, too. It sucks that he left 'Mac right when they were on the cusp of explosive world wide popularity. He had three charted hits between '77 and '79 and rapidly slid into obscurity. Sucks that he killed himself in the recent times.

Tough industry, that there pop music.

I've been jammin' to Steve Miller the past few days in the gym. Album, "Circle of Love", from 1981. Rockabilly!

Yes, it DOES. OTOH, I have to admire the cojones it took to make that decision. I've often said that I'd take the 9mm cure when and if life got to the point that made such a decision necessary. It remains to be seen if I'll follow through on that, but I always have Mr. Welch's example for inspiration.

      RIP, Bob.

  2. Both versions are nice. Once again, I know nothing when it comes to music and its history.

Something I had never paid attention to is the fact we married about the same time (me in 77; you in 78).

    1. A key difference: you're still married. ;-)

  3. Oh, I won't need a 9mm Buck, one of my best friends who was in every fighter squadron I was ever assigned to with me by luck of the draw (tho we didn't go to plt tng together--I met him in my 1st assignment@DaNang.) once told me: "Don't worry, when you're sitting in your wheel-chair drooling on your-self on the 2nd floor of a Nursing home starring out a window looking onto the parking lot, I'll just put you out of your misery by slipping in and placing a cyanide capsule betweeen your teeth, put one hand on your jaw, the other on the top of your head and squeeze.." LOL! (And I'm not sure that isn't EXACTLY how I would want it!, lol)

    1. I need a friend like that. The 9mm cure is kinda messy and there's always the possibility of flinching, which would be "not good."

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
