Heresy (In Two Parts) and Today's Happy Hour Soundtrack (Also In Two Parts)

First the heresy...  We've gone on about how we don't particularly care for the bite that lurks within those IPAs and Pale Ales.  There's a cure for that...

First take a State Pen Porter and consume about two-thirds of that.

Then add a bottle of Dig to what remains and Walla!  A perfectly drinkable beer.  Yeah, I know: heresy.  But, Hey!  It works.  For me.

On to the soundtrack, which is yet another twofer.  First the original:

Wait!  Haven't we seen that graphic someplace?  Why, yes... I do believe we have:

Heh.  And then there's Lyle, whose version of "Friend" is EVERY bit as good as the Beloved Dead's and mebbe better.

What?  MORE heresy, you say?  Well, it is what it most certainly is.  And now it's back out to the verandah... on a near 70 degree day... to continue as we've begun, with an eminently drinkable beer.

  1. LOL! Checking out the pic of the Deadhead sticker on your wheels I couldn't help but notice that your lisc-plate frame with the name of the dealership (?) on it it by name of "BENDER" which is also the name of the cigar-smoking, beer-swilling anti-social philistine of a robot--a character definitelyafter your own heart-- in the tv cartoon series "Futurama" by Matt Groening How serendipitously appropriate!

(And if you're unfamiliar with the series, you've GOTTA check it out!!! It's totally out-of-hand!!!)

    1. You're SURE that's the name of the dealership VX?

    2. @Virgil: Thanks for that tip. I googled Bender and got this: ..."alcoholic, whore-mongering, chain-smoking gambler." Heh. That WOULD be me, except for the gambling bit, if one is technical about defining "gambler," in that I don't play cards, go to Vegas, yadda, yadda. But if one is NOT technical, well... yeah.

There's also quite a bit o' Bender on the Tube o' You and I've sampled some. Yet MORE reinforcement to your point! I'm gonna have to see if "Futurama" is available on Amazon Prime for streaming.

@Chris: We've had some discussion about that license plate frame in the past. Normally I remove advertising from my vehicles and EXPRESSLY instruct dealers to not sully my car with stickers and other such stuff. But I've decided to keep "Bender" simply for the fun that's innit.

  2. Near 70! (Grumble, grumble, but hey No scorpions do I see!)

As for the mixology, I may have to try that.

    1. Yup... NO scorpions in sight. That mixing trick works; I've done it with other beers I found less than pleasing, as well.

  3. Sportsfans! OT, but I read a GREAT quote today over at Kate's place@smalldeadanimals.com. that I just gotta share. A guy named Syd B said: "Arguing with a Liberal is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how good you are at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, crap on the board and strut around like it's victorious." LOL!!!

    1. Heh. I could say the same thing about arguing with TSMP but she'd accuse me o' bein' disrespectful. So I won't.

  4. PS: Most friends who really know me would probably agree that "State Pen" Porter is totallyreflective of where my station in life should be. They must have had guys like me in mind when they named it. Or as one of my best friends once said of me way back in 1969 (when I really hadn't lived that long to be able to do real damage yet) to a gal I was dating who asked of him what I was really like: "Virgil's got so many skeletons in his past he had to build an addition onto his house just so he'd have enough closets to keep 'em all in." LOL!

  6. Yeah, I don't much care for IPAs myself. But here's what I really needed to say. I am disappointed anytime you aren't drinking from the Rocky glass.

    1. Well, that glass DOES wind up in the dishwasher from time to time.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
