Today's Happy Hour Soundtrack

This tune got stuck in my head earlier today, bein' as how I'm "of a certain age" and considerin' the day's first post (scroll down)...

I do believe Ol' Jed's gone home... wherever "home" was... if'n he's still alive.  I should remind you Gentle Readers that I voted with my feet some ten years ago.

  1. I used to love that show! Buddy Ebsen died at age 95 in 2003. He was quite the song/dance man way in the wayback. Trivia: he is in an early Shirley Temple movie.

    1. I really liked the show a lot, too. I don't think I missed a single episode.

    2. Remember "Grandma?" My wife had her as a patient in LA--can't remember which hospital--she worked so many--and she's not around right now..

    3. Grannie was one of the best characters on the show, IM(NS)HO.

  2. Another show I can't remember because I just didn't watch TV much in those days.
But I do remember Buddy Ebsen as Davy Crockett's sidekick and Barnaby Jones... always thought Lee Meriwether was hot.

  3. Okay, I liked Uncle Jed, Grannie and Ellie Mae but seriously, no one mentioned Jethro Bodine. Who went to Oxford and was (at one point) a naught-naught spy. He was always my personal favorite.

  4. Ellie Mae comes out wearing this beautiful dress, but it is rather low-cut in the front. Jed stops her. After a bit of discussion about the dress, he says that he thinks she may have it on backwards and suggests she go turn it around. Ellie May says, "Sure thang, Pa." and turns around revealing that the dress has no back at all. In deadpan, Jed says, "On second thought, maybe you better not turn it around." Ellie May just shrugs and goes off. Jed shakes his head.

I love that show. Jethro with his "gosintas" was always one of my favorites.

  5. Buddy Ebsen had done a hillbilly before, y'know.

Check this one out, from 1936.
