♫ ♪ I'd Been Thinkin' Lately I'd Get a Maid... ♪ ♫

Not the service I hired.
You Gentle Readers know this is a recurring theme here at EIP and we even have a label for these sorts o' posts.  Well, today we moved beyond the "thinkin'" stage and actually contracted for housecleaning services.  Tomorrow is our first appointment and we'll evaluate the services from a few angles, e.g., efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and thoroughness.  This might could be an on-going thang or I might get someone else.  Trial-'n'-Error Я Us.

I really do hate house cleaning.  I mean REALLY hate it.  OTOH, I feel guilty about doing this sorta thang... mainly coz I have ALL the time in the Free World to do what must be done.

I know: First World Problems.  We all have 'em.

  1. I don't blame you at all. I HATE housework with the fiery passion of a thousand burning suns. Yet I'm a neat freak with more than a touch of OCD. It doesn't have to make sense, just go with it. ;)

Heh. It seems we live in the same space, Christina. My house is "picked up;" everything has its place and is always in that place. My clothes are all folded a certain way, there are NO dishes in the sink, and there ain't any hair in the bathroom sink. I pretty much pick up after myself all the time... but I hate, hate, HATE the mopping, the vacuuming, dusting, mirror cleaning, changing the bed, and all that other happy horseshit... and THAT'S the stuff I want done for me.

  2. Buck, no need to feel guilty. You are doing your bit for the economy. Sure, you've got all the time in the world. But by hiring a maid service, just think of the jobs you're helping to create and sustain. My word, you're a regular humanitarian!

Hmmm. Now that you mention it, I wonder if Craig's List has any out-call services listed in P-Ville. I'll have to check on that, since improving the local economy seems to be my new mission in life.

  4. Hey - it's your money, it's your home. That's really all that matters. And good for you for doing this - I'm jealous.

    1. The last time I had a maid was when I was working for that start-up in SFO... and then it was Molly Maids. They're pretty good; I stayed with 'em for a year.

  6. I may, someday, post about back in the wayback (circa 1967-68) when my sisters would clean my apartment.

    1. I never had family that would do that sorta thing for me. Come to think about it, the girlfriends never did, either.

  7. I have to sell my house. I'm retiring in April. As I look around, I have spent 10 years doing zero upkeep. This means: 1) Needs a new furnace. 2) Needs new carpet. 3) Needs sheetrock work, 4) Needs a new bathtub and toilets. Crap, that'll cost $20k probably!

I'm thinking of calling Ugly Houses and liquidating. $20k won't really make the house worth the appraisal the county tax man seems to like.

    1. I think $20K sounds conservative, based on your list. Ugly Houses might be the wise choice.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
