An Update to Today's First Post

The sun came out about 20 minutes ago, which event prompted ME to get out, as well.  A couple o' few different views o' the latest WX event...

That would be the Portales Intra-city waterway, winter and summer versions.  Just for the contrast that's innit, Gentle Reader.  Here's the view of the intra-city, looking west (heretofore unseen):

For those of you unfamiliar with the southwest... we have no drainage systems like all y'all do back east.  That's what the streets are for in this part o' the world.

And finally... contrasting views of the Casa Inmóvil de Pennington...

I much prefer the latter over the former.  That will come and I hope it's soon.

  1. Your snow has turned from pretty to pretty messy. Great moisture, though.

    1. It IS messy... but at least it's bright.

  2. So Portales is kinda like Venice, without the gondolas. Though the architecture is a bit too "New World" to be mistaken for Italy.

Heh, Intra-City Waterway, I like that.

    1. We're "like Venice" mebbe two or three times a year... whenever we get measurable precip. I'll do a re-run some time in the near future about the asshats in their big-ass pickup trucks that think it's fun to spray other cars by racing thru intersections.

  3. It gets messy when it snows here, too.
It's really messy where everything levels out.

That would be ALL of P-Ville.

  4. I would have thought that Portales would have had concrete-lined coolees to handle flash floods your region is so prone to, but I guess that perhaps you don't get that much annual rain/snow to justify, eh?

    1. We have at least one of those, Virgil, just off the 18th Street Intra-City Waterway. We prolly have more than one, but that's the only one that comes to mind.

    2. You know, I just really zeroed-in on the fact you have a non-maint "rock garden" for a front lawn, lol. Reminds me of a cute (and true) story: Several of my college frat brothers were from Orlando and one had a family beach house at New Smyrna as well. Spring break we used to stage out of the one guys house in Orlando and head for the other guys place in New Smyrna, using it to crash at night after a long day at the beach, at Daytona was just down the road. Well, one Easter after festivities were ended @ Daytona we travelled back to Orlando all-drunked up from New Smyrna in Lanny's pink-painted party jeep w. a purple& pink striped rag-top. (LOL) When we got to Lanny's house in Orlando the drive-way was already full as his parents were hosting a party, so we decided to park on the lawn. Unfortunately heavy rains had made it a quagmire and we sunk in GOOD. In trying to get unstuck we drunks ripped up almost the entire front yard (Thank God Lanny was driving.) The upshot? When we came back the following year his Father had thrown in the towel--the entire front lawn was a Japanese rock garden! LOL!!!

    3. PS: That was the week our zaniness was too much for Lanny's Father who was a recovering alcoholic--because of us he fell off the wagon and, according to Lanny's Mother, went on a bender in self-defense. LOL!

    4. Rock gardens are good things. Back in my home-owning days I threatened to pour concrete in my front yard and paint it green, but never delivered on the threat.

  5. That road is a serious engineering failure. It should have a peak in the center, so water runs to four inlets to move the water to treatment plants, or holding ponds. Right now, it looks like a job for evaporation.

    1. The whole road has a slant towards the east that eventually feeds water to 18th street, which, in turn, feeds water to that concrete coulee Virgil was on about. The road is completely dry within three hours after the rain stops. Evaporation is very efficient in these parts, too. ;-)

  6. P.S. That bottom photo shows a tree that needs to be re-tied to the stick, or it is seriously f*cked.

    1. That photo is about a year old and the tree's surviving, believe it or don't.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
