Today's Happy Hour Soundtrack

Eydie Gormé with something from the WAY-wayback:

Que se quede el infinito sin estrellas,
O que pierda el ancho mar su inmensidad,
Pero el negro (alt. el brillo) de tus ojos que no muera,
Y el canela de tu piel se quede igual.

May the infinite be left without stars,
Or may the wide sea lose its immenseness,
But may the blackness (alt. the glimmer) of your eyes never die,
And may the cinnamon of your skin stay the same.
(complete lyrics here)
The First Mrs. Pennington owned this album when we were married back in '66.  I grew to love that album... a lot.  And we'll stop right here, lest we go over the top.

Memory is a funny thing and the ways in which it's triggered are many and varied.  This song popped into my mind as I was crumbling a stick o' cinnamon into the pot we keep simmerin' on the stove for to provide humidity in El Casa.  I buy my stick cinnamon in the Mexican market here in P-Ville and the package is labeled in Spanish, i.e., "canela."  And then... bingo:  there's Eydie, in my head and now in yours.

  1. Buckster...As a young child, I was in love with Kim Novak, Ann-Margret, and Eydie Gourmet.

She was way too good for Steve. If she'd have only been born 30 years later, she could have had me.

    1. We had the same lust objects, except I was a young man. Thanks for the link... I love that tune.

  2. You were married in '66? Yea Gods! I had just graduated from LSU and was in pilot tng @Laughlin in Del Rio as a foot-lose & fancy-free bachelor--didn't tie the knot until '73 @age 29. "Marry in haste, repent...."....but I'm sure you know how the rest of the saying goes, right, kemo sabe? :) LOL.

    1. But it looks like you DID get some great kids out of the deal...so there's that. These crazy days the best that one can reasonably hope for is that when they grow up they at least won't hate ya', lol

    2. I did indeed get great kids out of the deal. And I still get enchiladas, from time to time.

  3. I had not thought of Edyie in years, but I remember her well (although I was just a baby when she was popular). Your music made want to know more about her, so I did a Wiki read. Interesting.

  4. Thanks for the memory, Buck. Great song and singer. Like Bag, I did the wiki too and found it most interesting. Ignorant me, never knew she was Jewish (all the Spanish records threw me I guess).

    1. It's strange, but I haven't listened to her in YEARS. Literally. I fixed that yesterday, though. There's a lot of her stuff on the Tube O' You. I (heart) technology!

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
