Today's Happy Hour Soundtrack

That lil ol' band from Tejas...

ZZ Top is mostly known for their boogie... it seems like ALL the hits are like that, and by that I mean "La Grange," "Tush," and "Sharp Dressed Man," among others... but I like the Top BEST when they play traditional electric blues, something they're VERY good at doin'.

We've got ZZ's "Six Pack" loaded up in our CD player today and we're especially appreciative of the first two discs which have a LOT of blues on 'em.  Boogie, too.  Can't forget the boogie.

  1. Love the blues of ZZ Top. The Boogie, as you say can't be forgotten. I guess I know what I'm gonna run out and buy now, damn you. I got a six pack on my shopping list. ;)

I think one of the most important aspects of real blues is the quality of the voice. Not that every blues singer has the same edge or sound, not in the least, but there has to be a soulful aspect that isn't easy to produce.

    Thanks Buck!

    1. I agree with you on the "soulful" bits, OG, which is why there are SO many "white boy sings the blues" jokes and slurs, most of which are deserved. But ZZ Top most certainly do a good job at it. I think you'll LOVE the six-pack!

    2. I looked over the song list. Wow. I have a couple of their albums, but this puts it all in one nice package. I just bought it on iTunes. Didn't want to wait to get it.

I also wonder if some of the "white boy sings the blues" that falls a bit flat is the instrumentation. You have to have that guitar that weeps.
