Just Down the Road a Piece...

Air Frame: C-130J Super Hercules aircraft taking off from Dyess AFB, Tex., during a training exercise on Nov. 30, 2012, pass by the base's B-1B Lancer bombers. Dyess' 317th Airlift Group is slated to receive 28 new-build C-130Js; already 23 of those are in place, according to base officials. (Air Force photo by SSgt. Richard P. Four hours away, actually.  If ya look REAL close ya might be able to see me waving from the Llano Estacado in the distance.

  1. Nice pic. I followed your link for the Llano Estacado. Most interesting. Is Portales actually somewhere on the Staked Plain?

    1. About P-Ville... yup, we're on the Staked Plain. The bottom o' that Wiki article listed the cities and towns o' import on Llano Estacado and Portales got an Honorable Mention. ;-)

    2. Ya know I thought that might be you Buck. But the hat looked funny. Maybe it's just the distance?

  2. I Love the name Llano Estacado - it always reminds me of "Lonesome Dove."

    1. @Lou: It is a rather romantic name for such a desolate place.

  3. I may be one of a very few that didn't need the link to know about the Llano Estacado. I was born near Amarillo and spent most of my growing up years just 30 miles from Lubbock. Portales isn't nearly as flat as Lubbock, but that's a story for another day. Another trivial thing is that now there is a very good wine from that area named appropriately enogh, Llano Estacado.

    1. You and Lou, Jim. Lou is a good Texas/New Mexico gal who grew up in the area... so she knows, as well. I'll have to look for that wine you mentioned; I haven't seen it in my travels. Then again... I haven't really been looking.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
