Today's Happy Hour Soundtrack

I'm just in for my first refill and thought I'd let all y'all in on what we're listenin' to on this fine... weather-wise (i.e., nearly 80 degrees and crystal-clear sorta day)... afternoon.  Hot Tuna:

Well mother don't you stop prayin'
Father keep right on prayin'
Don't you stop prayin' for this old world is almost done
Keep your lamps trimmed and burning
Keep your lamps trimmed and burning
Keep your lamps trimmed and burning
For this old world is almost done
Brother don't you stop prayin'
Sister keep right on prayin'
Don't you stop prayin' for this old world is almost done
Keep your lamps trimmed and burning
Keep your lamps trimmed and burning
Keep your lamps trimmed and burning
For this old world is almost done
We're takin' a page out of Blog-Bud Dan's book, in that he's singin' and playin' the blues today.  Me, too... coz as John Lee Hooker once said... "Blues is a healer."  We shall keep our lamps trimmed and burnin'... coz it ain't the end o' the world, it only FEELS like it.

  1. Lotta ways to skin that partic'lar cat. This is more my stuff than it is yours, I know - but here's a beaut from the '80s:

This is definitely being a day when it's hard to have noplace to sing and play.

Indeed. If ya do a search on the Tube O' You for "keep your lamps trimmed..." you come up with hundreds of hits. I decided to stay true to what we're actually listenin' to...which IS Hot Tuna... but yours is just as worthy.

  3. I'm not familiar with this tune (tuna?) but I like it.

    1. It's an old blues number... the original (?) was performed by Blind Willie Johnson. Just about every blues band worth their salt has covered the tune; I particularly like HT's take.

  4. Mr. Cassady is always worth listening to. One of the best bass players ever.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
