This 'n' That

Blog-Bud Jim has his initial list of "Thanksgiving Comes First" posts up at his place... and of all those mentioned, Cricket's is my personal favorite.  Cricket's writing is like that famous Rockwell painting...Freedom From Want... only in prose.  His description of his childhood Thanksgiving(s) is classic Americana.  Go read.

We're oh-so-low-and-slow this morning and have no ideer why.  The time change works in our favor in that we gain an hour o' sleep and I arose at almost the usual time today, albeit an hour earlier by the clock, yet I'm havin' the hardest time gettin' off that proverbial dime.  The coffee is really good this morning, so there's that.  Then again... the coffee is ALWAYS good around here.

We're resolved to get out and vote EARLY tomorrow and avoid the rush.  My definition of "early" means sometime between 1000 ~ 1100 hrs or so, but we will vote long before Happy Hour and save an hour or two for our UCR afternoon nap.  I'll need that nap, methinks, coz tomorrow night looks to be a long one.

I wonder if Mitt knows Ann is e-mailing me EVERY DAMNED DAY, sometimes twice a day?    She'd "love to meet me?"  That ain't right.

Finally... there's this (no post about nuthin' is complete without reference to the weather):

It's hard to believe it's November if one judges by our daytime temps.  It's NOT hard to believe once the sun goes down, though.  After Dinner Whiskey Hour has been a rather rushed affair of late due to the encroaching chill and my personal dearth of insulating fat... yesterday excepted, of course.  A patio heater... I need a patio heater.

  1. Jim's crusade has caught a lot more attention this year. That's a good thing.

We already voted ...by mail ...because we thought we might not be home.

Weather here's been bouncing around a little. We're back in the 80s but gonna have a precipitous drop by the weekend... maybe rain again, too.

    1. I shoulda taken advantage of early voting and avoided the rush. But, Hey! Tomorrow's supposed to be a fine day and it'll be good to go and meet some like-minded folks. We're pretty solid Red here in Roosevelt County, except for a few pointy-headed types at the University, and their indoctrinated acolytes.

  2. The Oracle is going to work from home tomorrow so that we can go vote together; and it's funny Buck, I was thinking of going around the same time you indicate. I figure the crowds won't be so big at that time. Long day and night coming up, for certain.

    1. Roger that, on the time. I figure I'll be right in between the REAL early people who vote on thier way to work and ahead of the "vote for lunch" bunch.

  3. So Buck, does Mitt know about you and Ann?

I know you cut a pretty rakish figure, so I'm hoping you'll let her down easy.

That aside, I loved Cricket's post on Thanksgiving. A classic. Like you said pure Americana.

The Election tomorrow? My stomach is in knots. It'll be almost too much to bear if things go wrong tomorrow. Amen on the long day and night Kris.

If you check the fifth message down in the pic you'll see Mitt is actually pimpin' Ann. Pols... Sheesh.

I'm on pins and needles about tomorrow, but I'm hopin' and prayin' as best I know how.

  4. I loved Cricket's Thanksgiving; especially the part about the grandfather mixing Fresca and cranberry juice as their drinks. My Thanksgivings were similar except for the serious game of football with the cousins and neighborhood kids.

I voted Saturday with Jesse. We waited in line for an hour, and by the time we left, the line was even longer.

    1. My Thanksgivings as a child were way different, seein' as how I was drug around the world at an early age. I don't ever recall celebrating with blood-related family, but we always had a gaggle of my father's buds, co-workers, and their families at our house on Thanksgiving. It was sorta the same, yet very different.

I'm about an hour away from voting.

  5. My swell pal, Cricket, sure can write, eh? Thanks for giving him a thumbs up.

I voted this morning at 7:05. Well, I voted at 7:45, stood in line from 7:05 onward. Worth every minute.

  6. Ann must be fickle; I'm getting those emails too. The temp here today in TN is a chilly and damp 48 degrees F. Luckily, we early voted and don't have to go out.

  7. Cricket's piece is one of my very favorites.

I voted at the same time as you. There was one person ahead of me. They only gave us 3 minutes to vote and we had a gajillion proposed Constitutional amendments.

Today, I think I'd like to be placed in a medically-induced coma for a few years.

    1. The coma idea sounds very appealing. And here I thought the LAST four years were long...

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
