I Can't Say They Didn't Warn Me...

... but I'm sure gonna miss iGoogle when it goes away next year (note the yellow message block).  My current search screen looks like this:

iGoogle is a veritable one-stop shop for most of the stuff I do on these inter-tubes.  With Red Wings!

(sigh)  Google giveth, and Google taketh away.  I suppose I have a year to figger out what I'm gonna use as a substitute.

Any ideers?

  1. Sad about this too, since iGoogle is my home page and I've had it set up just like I like it for years now.

Yahoo still offers a personalized home page (my.yahoo.com) but the module choices aren't as good. I'm looking myself.

    1. At least Google gave us a year to look. Like you, I've been using iGoogle for years... and I'm PO'ed.

  2. I'm not at all pleased, either
I'm guessing they're trying to get users to migrate into gurgle+
It seems more like change for the sake of change at the gurgleplex
    Nothin's broke
    So don't fix it

    1. I agree on the "if it ain't broke" aspect of this. I can't see how maintaining iGoogle would be such a big deal... I don't think it requires a dedicated support team or anythang like that.

  3. I've used My Yahoo for yrs mainly because I hate Google for its political stance--so use mainly Bing every avail opportunity--especially the times when I use Chrome instead of FF. I'd probably go to IE as it has gotten so much better, but I'm STILL in dark ages using XP (and like/used to its foibles) so no go for IE9.

    1. Wait. You don't like Google's politics yet you use Chrome? What's up with THAT?

    2. Well, Chrome is my (cough) back-up when FF is giving me problems. What can I say?

  4. No suggestions. I'm just cruising blogs right now because your ND boys are making that game against Wake a second choice.

By the way, it's time for Frank Spaziani to go as BC coach. He hasn't had the best horses to ride this season, but he had them today and his balls shrank when his team needed him. Had the ball with 1:09 remaining, two timeouts, tie game, and he ran into the line three times to give up an uncontested opportunity to win in order to go to overtime. Yeah, Frank, you were on your own 20, but what the hell. You've got two wins on the season, it's senior day, your boys spilled their guts for you all day, you've probably got the best kicker in the ACC, Alex Amidon is the leading receiver in the conference... Nope. Goes to OT, Va Tech scores a touchdown, BC goes four and out, another loss. Truly a pussy call.

    1. Yeah, the ND game was a snoozer by the end of the third. Don't tell anyone, but I went over to the Tiggers - Klan game at the start of the fourth quarter. That game was close and had upset written ALL over it.

I'm sorry to hear about yer Eagles and their woes. We've been there and done that a LOT over the last ten years (or more) with ND.

  5. Now, I wouldn't want you running away with the idea that I'm the resident expert in these matters - after all, I had never even heard of iGoogle till I read your blog and straightway rushed to Google it to find out what I had been missing! Anyway, the net result is that I read an article on PC Advisor which suggested NetVibes as being the closest to iGoogle.

    1. I've heard of Pinterest, but really had no ideer what they do. So I googled 'em. From The Wiki:

In December 2011, the site became one of the top 10 largest social network services, according to Hitwise data, with 11 million total visits per week.[10] The next month, it drove more referral traffic to retailers than LinkedIn, YouTube, and Google+.[11][12] The same month, the company was named the best new startup of 2011 by TechCrunch.[13]

      Impressive. I'm anti-social, though... so I prolly won't join.

You were too busy at NIGHT to watch football? I ain't gonna go there...
