Bother, Indeed

Pretty dumb move for such a smart guy.  But we're all human...

―:☺:―

And now fer sumthin' completely different...  Today's the day we celebrate Veterans Day, as in a lot o' folks get the day off.  That's if you work for the various shades o' gub'mint or a bank; nearly everyone else is back in the traces today.  I found it strange that I got every Veterans Day off while I was in the Air Force... and technically not yet a veteran... but I WORKED every single Veterans Day after I retired from the AF.

I get the day off now, though.   free smilies

Said conundrum has me posting from work this morning. A quiet morning, as my customer is the US Air Force. But could my boss give me the day off? Nooooooooo!

  2. I think there is far more to the story of the General and the married lady. Being that Clintoon had an affair in the Oval Office, it seems resigning - after I might add, bringing this to light HIMSELF, is at the least odd.

Maybe Benghazi will be looked at a bit more by the lame stream media, after all, now it has sex involved, at least on one of those involved.

Happy Veterans day, and thanks for your service. (Even if yesterday was the actual day.)

    1. Agreed on the "far more" bits. What I find more than passing strange is the fact the FBI knew of this since late summer... and Petraeus waited until immediately AFTER the election to resign, as a self-initiated action? He wasn't immediately relieved as a security risk? Strange, strange, strange...

    2. Will Petraeus fall on the sword now to protect Obama? This Benghazi mess just looks more and more suspicious. If we had a real media, would Obama have been re-elected even with the massive fraud?

The President would have been informed of this affair that Petraeus had a while ago. It makes me think the affair was used against the General.

    3. I think Petraeus is currently trying to pull the sword out of his back.

    4. The John Allen connection makes the whole SNAFU all the more curiouser and curiouser.

      Stupid Blogger.

  3. He ain't the first smart guy who ever got caught thinkin' with the wrong head. . . I feel bad for his wife; 38 years is a lot to put at risk. And the 'married mother of two' he was boppin'. . . wonder what her hubby thinks. . .

And yeah, it is passing strange that, all of a sudden, the Donkeys are all upright about guys gettin' a bit on the side. Altho, the national-security aspect of it ain't nothin' (which it wasn't for Clinton, either). . .

My understanding is that he didn't self-report, the FBI discovered it in the course of investigating some 'nasty' emails his girlfriend sent to someone else. . .

The General I work for has, for the past several years, given us a Veterans Day holiday, except it's always closer to the 15th (Opening Day of Deer Season in Michigan) than the 11th. So I'll have 'Veterans Day' this coming Friday. . .

    1. Your Petraeus points are all spot-on, Craig. And Good On yer employer for giving you the day off for Veterans Day... even better that he defers until the start of deer season. Bein' a former Michigander I KNOW what that means...

  4. Is there something in the Washington water that makes you do stupid things? So, a close friend of Petraeus gets some odd emails...rather than calling her friend Petraeus, she calls the FBI?? Sounds fishy. In fact, there are lots of smelly fish here. Bottom line is he screwed up.

Hope you have a great Monday/Veteran's Day.

    1. Yeah, that part does seem a bit of over kill. Somehow I just can't imagine that someone who gets a number of emails like that referencing Petraeus would think, "I know, I'll go to the FBI on this".

      Smelly fishes indeed.

  5. Of course you and I grew up when it was still called "Armistice Day," Buck. There was/is just something eternally, solemnly memorable about "the Eleventh Hour of the Eleventh Day of the Eleventh Month"that catches at the throat in a way that the generic "Veterans Day" does not. They should designate another day as Veterans day, rather than detract from the triumph over the exquisite pain that was WW I. (Of course I think President's Day is also an abomination . MLK has his own holiday but the "Father of Our Country" and first President does not??? Logic says: No Washington, no MLK. Period. BTW, growing up in Illinois we got both Washington AND Lincoln's Birthdays off when in grade school. We were happy campers! :) )

    1. I agree.

On President's Day, I don't get off, but I get MLK Day. With how convoluted things have gotten is it any wonder this country is going in the dumpster?

  6. We got both Washington and Lincoln off when I was in grade school in Boston. Now we've rolled it all into one day when we celebrate such interesting creatures as Clinton and Nixon. Woo-Hoo!

As you know from my ranting on another upcoming holiday, traditions take a beating pretty regularly nowadays. More's the pity.

    1. I got both days off, too, but we're Old Farts, ain't we? Yup... traditions just ain't what they used to be.
