Not Your Father's Air Force XXII

Mebbe not YOUR father's, but most certainly mine.  Here's a gallery of custom WW II USAAF A-2 jackets... and there are some beauts there.  Here's one:

"Der Grossarschnoogel Grossarschvogel?"  I think I might know what that means...  (see the comments and you'll KNOW)

The h/t goes to NaCly Dog, who dropped the link to this site in comments at The Lexicans.

  1. Those were fun! My favorite may be "Miss B Haven."

  2. Heh. The Big-Assed Bird. But in German, it's a COMPOUND WORD. Gotta love German. :D

    Oh, and it's "Grossarschvogel" that's a v, not an n.

    2. ...and Spanish.
Haven't used them much. The folks I deal with most days have enough trouble with English.

  4. Too lazy to cut & paste my reply to NaCly about the un-PC aspect of it all, go back and read my post, Buck..

    1. I read your reply at The Lexicans about five minutes before you put this up, Virg. E-mail is a wonderful thang. ;-)

  5. Great Pics. I really like the fact that "individual expression" could take place in those years. The main thing was defeating the Axis powers so why not try to have a little fun while doing it; it probably helped take their minds off of the daily risks of war.

PS. I learned a little German in college; the only phrase I remember is a garbled one from one of the texts we used; it translates as "The feather is in the window." Not much opportunity to use it during the past 50 years or so.

  6. "The feather..." is kinda like "La plume de ma tante," eh? About that "individual expression"... you sure as Hell couldn't do that today. No way, no how.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
