From the Usual USAF Source...
Kinda sad, innit? If you look closely at the larger version o' the photo you'll see a gaggle o' (what I think are) Lawn Darts and a couple o' Bones way in the back.

I may have mentioned it before, but Google Earth has great views of the boneyard. A few months back I burned a couple hours looking at stuff there.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip, Inno. I'll waste a couple o' hours there today... fer shure.
DeleteUsed to drive by that on the way to the golf course at DM. Pretty awesome, if indeed kinda sad.
ReplyDeleteIt is an awesome place. I'd like to get access so I could wander around inside... but I've only seen it from the road.
DeleteSad? Na, only if they were destroyed. I see a country ready and waiting for the next inevitable war.
ReplyDeleteAND as a spare parts depot.
DeleteThe planes in our boneyard probably make up the second best air force in the world.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Dan.
DeleteDo we have any C-5As flying anymore? If not that leaves it all to the Russian's An-124s & 225s, (#2 largest cargo ac in world)for outsized heavy lift capability, right? Man, the capabilities we throw away needlessly just so our Embassies can buy Chevy Volts and re-charging units@ $100,000/copy..
ReplyDeleteThere are no A-models left in active service, but USAF has committed to upgrading all the B and C models to C-5M status. It's an ongoing project, Virg. See the Wiki article on C-5s for more... according to The Wiki we'll have 52 C-5 airframes in service once the "M" project is completed.
Deletemy eyes aren´t that good, but i think I see a few Eagles and i know their are a few Double Uglies waitning to be converted to drones. :-(
ReplyDeleteMsgt Phil
Ah, but drones go out in a blaze o' glory... better than bein' chopped up into fodder for soda cans.
DeleteIt seems like such a waste - wasteland.
ReplyDeleteNot really a waste, Lou. Think "spare parts."
