(Dead) Plane Pr0n

From the Usual USAF Source...

Air Frame: Retired C-5 Galaxies and other out-of-service military aircraft sit in the Air Force's aircraft boneyard in the Arizona desert as the sun sets, Sept. 26, 2012. The boneyard, run by the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group, is on the grounds of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base near Tucson. Kinda sad, innit?  If you look closely at the larger version o' the photo you'll see a gaggle o' (what I think are) Lawn Darts and a couple o' Bones way in the back.

  1. I may have mentioned it before, but Google Earth has great views of the boneyard. A few months back I burned a couple hours looking at stuff there.

    1. It is an awesome place. I'd like to get access so I could wander around inside... but I've only seen it from the road.

  3. Sad? Na, only if they were destroyed. I see a country ready and waiting for the next inevitable war.

  4. The planes in our boneyard probably make up the second best air force in the world.

  5. Do we have any C-5As flying anymore? If not that leaves it all to the Russian's An-124s & 225s, (#2&#1 largest cargo ac in world)for outsized heavy lift capability, right? Man, the capabilities we throw away needlessly just so our Embassies can buy Chevy Volts and re-charging units@ $100,000/copy..

    1. There are no A-models left in active service, but USAF has committed to upgrading all the B and C models to C-5M status. It's an ongoing project, Virg. See the Wiki article on C-5s for more... according to The Wiki we'll have 52 C-5 airframes in service once the "M" project is completed.

    1. Ah, but drones go out in a blaze o' glory... better than bein' chopped up into fodder for soda cans.
