Labor Day

Ladies and Gentlemen... The Rolling Stones!

“Let’s Drink to the Hard-Working People…”

You don’t think of the Rolling Stones…at least I don’t… when it comes to delivering socially-conscious messages in song. But I can’t, for the life of me, think of a more appropriate tune for Labor Day. So, it’s in that spirit that I give you “Salt of the Earth.” (lyrics here)

It’s interesting to note that Jagger dismissed this song as one written in “total cynicism.” While that may be true, I prefer to derive my own meaning from the lyrics… and in MY interpretation, those “hard working people” are indeed the “Salt of the Earth.” Screw a bunch of cynics.
On the other hand… I could have posted this tune (Hell, I’m gonna post it anyway), which is kinda-sorta appropriate for Labor Day, innit? Both of these songs are from “Beggars Banquet,” which… apropos of nothing… just might be The Stones’ best album.  (ed:  No it's not.  Exile On Main Street is.)

Factory girls: God Love ‘Em!
Enjoy your Labor Day, Gentle Reader.

  1. Hey Buck! Happy Labor Day back at ya'!

The film "Factory Girl" was shot a good bit in Shreveport/Bossier (balled up downtown SHV for days). In fact, a little liquor/convenience store (oxymoron there) about a half mile from my place on the other side of the Red River bridge was one of the filming locations...shut down the whole damn street for two days, too.

All in all, it received bad reviews from what I read. Wouldn't know. Never saw it.

But, at least NM did not host a dud of a film like LA did on that one...

Looked at 43 seconds of the Stones video. Reminded me of why I never was much of a fan. Just sayin'...

In other love/hate news... MAN! Did ND ever put it on the squids? It must feel much better for y'all Irish guys to not get humiliated on opening day for a change. And, I mean that sincerely.

I'm reasonably sure the song is MUCH better than the movie, at least from what I read at The Wiki.

      Which one?

  2. Both songs seem very appropriate for Labor Day. Leave it to you to have just the right music.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
