We Can't Have Nice Things...

... because some asshat is bound to come along and f*ck 'em up.  Case in point:

That happened in the Wally-World parking lot last evening.  I couldn't have been inside shopping for more than 20 minutes and then I came out to find what ya see above.  No note, no apology, just a hit and run.  I figger that's prolly a $150.00 ding but we'll find out when we take The Tart over to our favorite body shop in The Big(ger) City™ on Monday.

(sigh)  It's always SUMTHIN'.

  1. Doncha just love it that the world seems so chock-full of idiots. They can't drive, they can't park and guaranteed that when you get a lovely new ride such as this, they show up and ding it. Kinda be nice to install reactive armor on the vehicle. Someone touches it, BOOM, they're blown into the next county. Just sayin'.

Back in 72, my brother bought a brand new Camaro, and always parked away from other cars so they wouldn't dent it. This lady parks right next to us as we are talking, opens her door and it swings right into his door. She says, "Oh, I'm sorry" and walks off.

My brother opens the trunk, takes out a 2-pound hammer from his tool box and proceeds to demolish her car, making sure all the glass is destroyed, and every panel has a dent in it. Then he calmly gets in the car and we drive away. He has the same chuckle that murderers have in movies...

I would have given $10 for a ticket to see the show when she came back from the store. It's been over seven years, so I don't worry about them looking for us anymore...

  4. Gotta build a GD fence around 'em--almost impossible to keep the things dent-free these days..

A few stories about my MARCOS GT which sat only 4 inches off the ground. Problem was that it was below the mirror profile of most cars and side view mirrors of many trucks. Almost got wiped out several times in the UK by trucks (Lorries) changing lanes w. me beside them and them not seeing me. In the US almost was wiped out twice; Once I had parked in the lot at USL tennis courts in Lafayette, La behind a convert. I lucklly was neir-by and the lady had the top down so I could yell STOP!! as she was backing up right into my Marcos blissfully unaware anyone was behind her as it was below the view/plane of her rear-view mirror. Dumb luck I was around at that moment. Another time I parked the Marcos at the very edge of a virtually empty parking lot at a small strip mall in the midddle of the afternoon to go into a BBQ place in Lafayette. As I was inside the shop I watched in horror HELPLESSLY as a guy jumped into his car (the ONLY other car in the lot which I thought I was well clear of parked parallel to the street [and perpendicular to him across the lot and at the opposite end)parked in front of the shop, GUNNED it in reverse as he briskly backed up in a sweeping wide bananna turn to the left JUST missing my car by inches at high speed as he ended up backing parallel to it out of the sweeping turn, then proceeded to move forward having never seen my car!which was TOTALLY out of his field of vision below his mirror and/or eye sightlines. All I could do from inside the shop was reflexively and ineffectually (no way he could hear me from inside) shout NOOOO!!!! at the top of my lungs. Startled the H out of the people inside, to say the least--once again, dumb luck was on my side, lol.

    1. That's what happened to me when the clue-free woman in the big-ass pick up backed up into me at a bleedin' STOP SIGN. "I didn't see you!" said she. "Right" sez me, which is all I COULD say without insulting her.

  5. The only blemish on Misty occurred within a week of purchase in the Costco parking lot, courtesy of a loose shopping cart (because some lazy dimwit didn't take it back to the corral) and the worst collision I ever had was in my previous vehicle in the same Costco lot, when the wind got hold of a loose cart and sent it careening into the tail light of my pickup.

    1. Yeah, loose shopping carts can be a big problem, especially in an area with high winds. I think my damage was done by a car, though.

  6. Someone backed into our new car in a parking lot and did some major damage. Of course they drove off and left me pissed off.

As for Virgil's gripe about trucks, I use to hate it when little cars would drive in my blind spot back when I drove a big four-door pick-up pulling a horse trailer. I would put my blinker on, and look and look, but several times some little no-see-um car would be driving beside me as if they couldn't get around me or enjoyed the shade. Little cars would also pull out in front of me at intersections thinking that I probably would not be driving the speed limit. They probably did not know how hard it is to shut down a big truck carrying lots of kids and heavy trailer pulling four horses. It's as if people who drive little cars have a death wish.

    1. TGH is a small car and I definitely don't have a death wish. I also have a good horn, but sometimes even that doesn't work.

    2. Now that I have small cars, when I come up on a truck, I get around them and stay the hell away from them. The bigger vehicle has the right of way.

  7. F*ck. That really does put a person off a good day doesn't it.

Ala DPA I am reminded of a story that took place at a large mall nearby here. Several years ago an older woman in a large 4-door Mercedes was waiting patiently for a car to pull out of a parking spot; she had her blinker on as per the usual. As soon as the spot opened, she moved to park and a young kid in daddy's older Corvette swooped in a stole the spot. As he got out of the car, the older woman put down her window in time to hear the kid say "Isn't it nice to be young and fast." She quickly responded "It's better to be old and rich" and proceeded to take her TANK of a Mercedes and drive right into the fiberglass body of the 'Vette. Not once, not twice but three times! She then left, throwing her insurance ID card out the window at the kid.

True story; I heard it from a family member who witnessed it. Said it was one of the most beautiful things they'd ever seen.

    1. I've heard that story before, Kris... except the way I heard it was an old man in a Caddy. Snopes has more variations on this theme.

  8. Damn. The first ding is always a heartbreaker. Sorry to see it, Buck. Give The Tart a kiss on her boo-boo for me.
