Today's Happy Hour Soundtrack...

... without music?  What's up with that?

We were out on the verandah a few short moments ago and decided to capture the sound of a gentle falling rain here on The High Plains o' New Mexico.  It was (and still IS) quite pleasant out on the verandah and we shall continue as we've begun... as soon as we can post this video.  We could LIE and say we were listenin' to sumthin' like this during Happy Hour, but the truth is we were listenin' to one of the Strauss Boys' waltzes before and after the video was shot.

Yup... Day Three of our Classical Music Jag.  Ongoing, as we speak.  It's a beautiful thang.

  1. You know, I've always loved the rain.

One of my favorite memories was being around the age of 12 or 13 and the entire family and I were standing or sitting on our covered porch, watching the roiling clouds during a day time thunderstorm. Beautiful, nature.

    2. When I was a child in the summer I used to ride my bike up to my Grandparents house a few blocks off the town square (It's now on the Register of Historic places--one of the first of the "grand homes" of our little mid-western town) go up to the Carnagie Library a few blocks away, check out a book and return to sit and read in a large rocking-chair on the veranda (tho they don't call them that in the midwest where it's called just a large porch) wrapped around two sides of the house. I always loved it when we would get a nice gentle (but brisk, not just a drizzle) shower to cool things off--especially when accompanied with enough wind to create a fine mist which would deliciously shower me--an effect not unlike the "misters" that out-door side-walk cafes often use today. That, and the sound of the rain on the roof and the sidewalk made for the perfect cozy setting--especially as the house was set on a little raised hillock overlooking the street..

      Memories..

    3. My grandmother's house in Hot'lanta had a BIG screened-in porch that was marvelous for watching summer storms... and for sleeping, which was where I slept on most summer nights when I was there (no AC). I usually think about that porch whenever I sit and watch summer rain.

      Memories, indeed.

  2. Dear Buck,
Please send some of that this way.
It is currently 102°F (on the way to 107°F) and the only thing in the sky is smoke.

    1. 107? 107? Aiiieee! It was almost chilly (70 degrees) this evening as I sat on the verandah for ADWH. I seriously thought about goin' inside and gettin' a long-sleeved shirt.

  3. It has rained all around us, but not much here at the Lazy B. In fact, it has been hot and muggy. Toby and I did work out at the barn a bit yesterday evening with a gentle rain falling outside. The rain barely got the ground wet, but it was pleasant. I do recall some great thunderstorms in NM that made for some good sleeping weather and other fun stuff when we were first married.

    1. It only rained for about a half an hour here... but as I've said before: we'll take whatever we get. This year is MUCH better than last. And yeah, our T-storms DO tend to be impressive. Then again, so do Oklahoma's... for entirely different reasons.

I can't believe you don't do "other fun stuff" just because your, umm, marriage is mature...

    3. I'm quite sure she does, Naked. But she IS a lady, above all.
