Today's Happy Hour Soundtrack

Dvorak's Ninth Symphony... fourth movement... which is just perfect for watching the thunderstorms gathering to our southwest.  But it's the  music we're on about...


It's oh-so-sultry outside at the moment and we're hoping these gathering storm clouds will dump some rain on P-Ville.  Note:


The storms are all around us at the moment, but our forecast sez there's significant hope for rain.  Like this:


Note the humidity: 24%.  That ain't Mrs. Hippy or Loosy-anna territory, but it's humid enough, Gentle Reader.  So much so that we've foregone the beer and are drinkin' G&Ts for today's Happy Hour.

Apropos o' that... I always flash back to Chiang Mai, Thailand and the pool at the Prince Hotel whenever I drink G&Ts.  We... about 40 close friends and YrHmblScrib... were in the habit o' buying Tanqueray and tonic water by the case back in Former Happy Days, Part One.  The staff at the Prince would keep us supplied with cut limes and ice as we lounged by the pool and indulged.  Those were some great good times, Gentle Reader... but it's one of those "ya hadda be there" stories in order for you to appreciate the full import of that which we speak.  We shall go no further, lest we incriminate the innocent.  Or the guilty, if or when it comes to that.

Tanqueray is so smooth that I always felt it didn't have enough "bite"--didn't interract enough with the quinine water for G&Ts, so I preferred Beefeaters (or practically any other good gin, tho Beafeaters is one of the few gins still made with taste of juniper berries). Although I'm NOT a Martini guy (too damn raw--fwiw, most USAF fighter pilots called 'em TAC-burgers, lol) if pressed I preferred the Green Bottle extract to make 'em exactly because it was so smooth..

    1. I prefer Bombay Sapphire these days for my G&Ts, Virg. I also use it to make my martinis, but I agree: Tanqueray is preferable for those TAC-burgers.

    1. It was hard... but somebody had to do it, yanno? I was actually up on top of Doi Inthanon building a radar site for the RTAF, where we worked 12-on, two-off for about four months. Our "two off" were spent down in Chiang Mai and believe me... those two down days were earned.

  4. Your talk of G&Ts always reminds me of the year that the folks in RR were all in to drinking G&Ts. Even at an outdoor music concert where the normal thing to do was drink beer, we were all passing the gin and tonic and yes, the lime. There was always some local fad for the summer.

  5. I was introduced to G&Ts whilst stationed at Pearl Harbor. Weekends were spent with distant cousins who lived on the far side of Diamond Head. To this date I still find tonic refreshing in the heat.

    Good choice for the soundtrack.

    I'm hearing rumors that we may see similar weather action to our east later in the week. We're currently at 101 and 10% (I'm gonna check again in about 25 minutes).

      Abso-positively. I can't think of a better place to enjoy G&Ts than Hawaii. Well, I might could... if pressed... but Hawaii is RIGHT up there. I've tipped a few there, as well.

      So far: no rain. I just checked the radar and all the promising activity has dispersed. (sigh)
