D-Day meaning "departure day," as in SN1 gets on his way to the desert today, with a one week stop at Langley AFB for in- and out-processing. It's a long story, but the Reader's Digest version is SN1 is technically assigned to Air Combat Command HQ at Langley, with a year's TDY to the desert. Thus... in- and out-processing.
I did a lil photography duty yesterday, as Buck needed a picture for his official bio and another for his line badge once he gets to the desert. Here's the bio pic:
I could be unkind and say...
ReplyDeleteBut no, I'll just agree with you.
Thank you, Brian. It's good to be agreeable. ;-)
DeleteYou know at first glance he looks so - stern. But then you look again and you realize he may be projecting stern-ness, but inside is a tender teddy bear.
ReplyDeleteGreat pic of a great person.
It's that military thing, Kris. And thanks for the kind words.
DeleteYou do have a handsome family.
ReplyDeleteThank ya, Ma'am!
DeleteReminds me of that famous motivator poster of the eagle, caption, "I AM smiling."

Dear Kris,
Clear conveyance of military culture here. He's a major-- my experienc would have been with a LCDR or CDR (O-3/O4).
The ensign/LTJG or 2nd LT/LT (O-1/O-2) was your first supervisor (but fresh out of an academy or other college-- they really delegate [or should] to senior enlisted the real authority). The captain or colonel (06-maybe O5 in some places) (O-6 Lex' last rank) was the CO, total control over all he sees, immense responsibility, but not quite a politician (in my pejorative sense). Generals/admirals are politicians (O-7 up) are very far removed from ops-- big to biggest picture.
It's that LCDR or major and his top master chief or master seargeant (Buck) that's really running the show. He must be stern and scary at this point in his career. No teddy bear-- only people who know him should know of the teddy bear if it exists.
I was only in the USN for six years. But I learned this formative lesson. Took it to heart as it exists in civilian society as well.
Yours,
Reese
Well said, Bob... and all of it's true.
DeleteWoops, O4/05 is Major/LT colonel or LCDR/CDR. O3 is Captain AF or LT Navy. Sorry, sirs.
ReplyDeleteProbably got something else wrong, but it's the concept that's important.
You didn't have to correct yourself... I was gonna cut ya some slack!
DeleteThe MSGT/MCPO does not cut slack. Well, maybe after he retires and mellows a bit. Best to Major SN1.
DeleteIn our prayers. Fine man...makes a Daddy a bit misty-eyed.
ReplyDeleteThank ya, Sir.
DeleteThank u for the military-bearing education. I truly do appreciate it. I kinda figured the "I am smiling" look about him was because of that.
ReplyDeleteStill - you CAN see the teddy bear. But perhaps that's cuz we know him thru his dad.
Take care, Major!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Anon.
