Tales From the AOR, Part III

From the ADAB newsletter I got in the mail this morning...

So.  Buck's been in the desert a week tomorrow, which means he has 358 days and a wake-up left.  Not that we're counting...

I could have SWORN I created a series of posts called "Tales From the AOR" when Buck was in Iraq and The Af, but apparently not.  I could only find one post with that title but I KNOW I used that terminology.  I'm not a very good blogger.

We always invade countries on the other side of the planet. I just remember having jet lag the whole time. I kept my watch on homeplate time. Luckily the new crews always got the night sorties, so we would actually be flying during our normal waking hours. Then we had to transition to dayshift after three weeks. The flight surgeon would have a class every year about circadian rhythms, but my solution was to just sleep all the time. I even slept through several scud hits. Why run? You'll only die tired...

    1. We always invade countries on the other side of the planet.

That's not entirely true, as we invaded and occupied parts of Mississippi and Northern California in the way-back. I know... I spent time in both of those gawd-fersaken places.

But your larger point is well-taken, Trash-Hauler.

  3. 358 days sounds like a whole lot of days. Maybe we should count by weeks.

    1. I don't think it matters, Lou, both numbers are still pretty big. But it'll pass... quickly for him, less so for the family.

  4. SQ CO? He should make LTC out of this assign., or has the shrinking force made that problematic these days? What's the current poop, Buck?

    1. Rumor has it he'll do alright when the time comes. He just had his first BTZ look at LtCol and didn't make it it, but that was the two-year BTZ board... few do.

    1. I'm sad because I couldn't be there for the change of command, like I was for SN2.
