Retail Politics

It's been quite some time since a candidate for public office knocked on my door and introduced himself for the purpose of getting acquainted and soliciting my vote.  "Quite some time," in this case means "never"... assuming memory serves.   But we ARE of an age where that's NOT a safe assumption.

Never the less, Mr. Bob Wooley, my representative to the NM state legislature, stopped by today and spent about three minutes with me, handed me a brochure, and gave me the thumbnail sketch of his biography, including the fact he's a Viet Nam vet.  When he mentioned that lil piece of information I replied "me too," at which time he said... immediately, with no hesitation at ALL... "welcome home."  Those two lil words prolly sealed the deal come election day... and the fact he's a Republican doesn't hurt, either.

―:☺:―

Another fun fact: Mr. Wooley stopped by as the coffee was brewing, meaning I hadn't poured my first cup yet.  Two thangs come to mind... (a) he had the great good sense not to bother anyone before the crack o' noon (what with me remaining abed until quite nearly 1300 hrs) and (b) thangs might not have gone nearly so well if Mr. Wooley was a member of that Donkey Party.  A door slam would have been the very BEST he would have received.

  1. That has never happened to me, ever. I'm not sure how I'd respond as it's a sure bet that if it did, it would be a Democrat.

  4. I get a lot of door knocks from guys/gals running for State Senate, or State Rep.

Mostly the ones running for State Rep...

Never got one from somebody running for US House, or Senate.

But, I did once get in to an e-mail conversation back and forth with my US Senator David Vitter. It was very interesting. My initial concern was sent to his .gov address. The reply (replies) came from a personal address. Never really had a pol take that kind of interest before. That was right before the shit hit the fan on his whoring. Guess he was reaching out to people...

    1. Your conversation with Vitter IS unusual, especially the bit about his private e-mail addy. But as you said: he prolly had an ulterior motive. Don't they ALL?

  5. Precious few get out and actually knock on doors these days, so when one does it's automatically their opponent who has to prove something to me. The person who comes to my house fairly much has my vote automatically unless his/her politics are absolutely repugnant.

  6. The Honorable Mr. Woolley appears to have at least some potential. Pols don't come to my door -- I have a pointy wrought iron fence and a large dog, and I like it that way.

  7. About the only strangers who have ever knocked on our door are Jehovah's witnesses and our volunteer fire department reps, never a politician. Your local candidate sounds like a keeper. And thanks to both of you for your service.

    1. I used to get a LOT of the door-to-door proselytizers when I lived in Beautiful La Hacienda Trailer Park. I think they bought into that ol' stereotype about sleaze and dins of iniquity and all that. I've had NONE since I moved into my more upscale digs (except the preacher from the church next door, but he's a neighbor). Strange, that, eh?

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
