Yet ANOTHER Reason to Actively Dislike Furds

If you ever dreamed of being part of the famed Blue Angels (sic) air demonstration team, here's your chance: Ford has created a Mustang in the colors of team's jet fighters that will be auctioned off.
Nope.  I never had that brand o' nightmare and would prolly wake up in a cold, cold sweat if I ever do.  Besides that, it's a well-known fact that friends don't let friends drive Furds.  What I really think is Furd should create about a dozen of these and gift them to the Angles.  That would be patriotic and would allow us to readily identify the Angles on the street, all the better so's we could point and laugh.

Secret message to Chevy:  Don't be gettin' all copycat tacky and do a Thunderbirds Camaro.  You don't need that to begin with (the Camaro bein' mo betta than the 'Stang) and the 'Birds are famous enough as it is, not to mention the fact they fly better jets.  No additional PR required.

  1. Whatever your preferences, that is one ugly-assed 624 HP piece of ferocity.

  2. Since I was never in the AF, I think the Angels and the T-Birds are both extremely cool.

However, I would feel like the World's Biggest Idiot driving around in that. It just screams "Look at me, I'm compensating for a small wiener!"

  3. I like... no, LOVE... the 624 hp aspect of the car, Andy. It's just the associations that are hard to stomach. ;-)

Inno: Heh. I had to live with that "small weiner" thang back in my Vette days. My comeback was usually on the order of "wanna try it?" when women would levy (or infer, however obliquely) that accusation. No takers, alas...

I never, or not that I can recall, heard a man make the same sorta allegation, strange as that may seem. But it's true.

  4. 624 HP? Hell it could be chartreuse with aubergine trim and I'd happily drive the damn thing.

The car - she can be re-painted.

  5. But Kris... you can buy a 440 hp 'Stang for a lil over $40K, directly from Furd... without the tacky paint. And then there's the after-market, which could add that additional 200 hp if ya really needed it.

Same thing goes for a Camaro SS, which would be the BETTER choice.

  6. A friend of mine has a Camaro and another a Mustang. Of the two, the Mustang is the car that seems a better drive. The Camaro is terrible with the view out of the front and side windows. The back is almost a joke.

The weight of the Camaro is really high, making the HP less than it could or should be.

I've had Chevy and Ford vehicles, the Fords I've had have lasted longer, less rust, repairs and cost for repairs overall. I keep most of my vehicles for 200K or higher. The Chevy models I had were not much after 150K mark.

Ford has it's faults, as do many of the American manufacturers, but it is a decent make.

    I'd rather have a Porsche. ;)

  7. While I don't care for that paint job, you are well aware of my take on the Ford vs GM argument, so I'm steering clear of this one. Although, like Anon, my Fords have lasted much longer than any GM product.

  8. I've had Chevy and Ford vehicles, the Fords I've had have lasted longer, less rust, repairs and cost for repairs overall.

I've owned both, as well, and my experience is the mirror image of yours, Anon. We shall agree to disagree then, OK?

Dave: Noted... and see the above.

  9. OK... I'm weighing in late, but feel I must. I will say the F-16 is a better plane (thrust to weight, etc.) But it has less to do than an F-18 and alas can't land on an Aircraft Carrier... but I guess it doesn't need to since AF Pilots can't land on one either.

I'm just sayin, look closely at any YouTube video of both teams, the Blues have better Pilots, tighter formations and they fly their shows without G-suits...

  10. ...and they fly their shows without G-suits...

About which: MUY macho, but rather dumb. (In my best Arte Johnson voice.) As for the planes... the F-16 does air-to-air and air-to-mud, just like the F-18... only better. The only thing it doesn't do is tank short-legged fighters ( like... ummm... certain tail-hook equipped jets), but then the AF has dedicated assets for that kinda stuff... about which the Navy is GLAD.

    Just sayin'. ;-)

  11. Buck, it could be the era the various vehicles were built. Both have had their bad years as well as good years.

Honestly, both are fun to drive, but being rear wheel drive with that much power can put you into a tight spot really fast if you don't know what you are doing. (Which probably accounts for more than half the drivers on the road today).

I remember the days that you would check on the day of the week the cars were built, as Friday cars were always sub-par, as were Monday cars.

    Magic Wordy Thingy... TATERS! lol.

  12. Hmm, this may not be my alley. I loved my husband's 74' Camero, but I would not care to own either a Camero or a 'stang now days - just don't care for the look of either. Chances are I would never own a Furd.

  13. Too bad Ford discontinued the T-Bird, Buck, then they could have done a commemorative T-Bird-to-T-Bird thing.. (I liked the last "retro" Birds, myself--don't know why they didn't sell.) My Dad had a used white '57 T-Bird convertible w. red interior and port-hole det. hard-top as a "second" family car (his--mom drove a Chrysler 500) back in 63. I came home from college for the summer of '64 and found that he had sold it and bought a new red MG Sprite Convert! I could have killed him! Come to think of it I'm STILL pissed!! LOL.

  14. Buck - all I can do is dream. From the showroom or custom it doesn't matter. The Oracle says I can't have a Mustang of any kind - despite my promises to be a good girl, he knows me only too well.

So he says no for my own safety. And much as it grieves me, I have to thank him for it.

  15. I like it. First it’s a Ford, second it’s a Mustang and jacked up to the bone.

The graphics aren’t too big or obnoxious, the paint job is killer.

Best part of all - “The Ford Racing components also include a handling pack, performance exhaust and racetrack brakes.”

“Ford has created a Mustang in the colors of team's jet fighters that will be auctioned off…The July 28 auction will support the EAA's Young Eagles program, aimed at introducing young people to aviation.”

C’mon now, that’s all right with me.

BTW, though a Ford owner I also thought the Ford/Chevy circle jerk was asinine…and it always…always started by a Chevy guy. Inferiority complex?

    It’s it’s American, drive it…and STFU.

  16. I like the looks of the new Dodge Charger. Someone in the area has a black one with black rims and black smoked windows. Sharp.

The Blue Angels were in town here this past weekend. Thursday and Friday was able to watch them practice, since my work building is right near the airport.

  17. Returned to wonder why, in your "lovefest" post about your beloved "furds" you didn't include the old stand-by 60s saying: F.O.R.D--"Fix Or Repair Daily," Buck. LOL

  18. Honestly, both are fun to drive, but being rear wheel drive with that much power can put you into a tight spot really fast if you don't know what you are doing.

I've owned egg-zactly ONE front-driver in my life and I'll NEVER own another. I'd never "lost" a car in snow before I owned that gotdamned SAAB yet I managed to throw that thing away three times (nuthin' serious, tho). Once you lose a front-driver all ya can do is hang on, coz you're goin' where the CAR wants to go... not you.

The Oracle says I can't have a Mustang of any kind - despite my promises to be a good girl, he knows me only too well.

I don't quite know what to say to that, Kris. I'd have had a fat lip if I even suggested to either of my Better Halves what they could or could not drive.

    Inferiority complex?

Hardly. More like a SUPERIORITY complex:

    Championships

Chevy has won 27 manufacturers' championships in NASCAR, the most of any brand. These are among the 31 total championships that General Motors has won in NASCAR. The Ford nameplate has won 12 of the 13 championships held by the Ford Motor Company.

    Heh.

Laurie: Those Challengers ARE cool looking. SN2 was up in Ra-cha-cha last week and he told me about standing out in a parking lot and watching the Angles practice.

Virgil: The latest T-Bird was neither fish nor fowl... not a sports car and not exactly a luxury car, either. I didn't wanna use that ol' "Fix..." thingie, coz EVERY Furd owner has a comeback or three in that space. ;-)

Lou: I think you'd look good in a Camaro.

  19. VX said, in part: ... the old stand-by 60s saying: F.O.R.D--"Fix Or Repair Daily," Buck. LOL

    Ahem.

That would be F.O.R.D. - First On Race Day

Buck - well, The Oracle has a point - I have my father's driving habits which is to say I'm a race car driver trapped in the body of an Executive Assistant. A Mustang of any kind would unleash that trapped driver. Remember, I'm the one whose first driving experience was in a 1967 Shelby GT500 - alongside my dad. These speed genes run deep and must be contained.

  20. And friends don't let friends fly f-16s either. And all they do here is pay the bills.
The E/F Rhinos are indeed a better airframe. And I know a Lockheed Martin engineer that is in full agreement with me.
Slowly getting closer to a position at Lemoore, Camp Pendleton, Miramar or North Island. Prefer Lemoore.

  21. I have a friend who is sneaking up on menopause (read: losing her mind) who just got a bright red Camaro. She joined a Camaro Road Club, has taken it on a dirt track, and accumulated a fistful of tickets since it came into her life. She hasn't busted out the leather jacket yet, but it's still hot here.

Pepper has declared a GM boycott since it became Government Motors. Can't say that I disagree. But, at least his old Sierra truck had a running board, unlike the F-150 that joined the family last year. Now I need a stepladder to get into both my new bed and his truck, and I daren't wear a dress or skirt when we're going somewhere in the behemoth.

  22. You have NO ideer how many times I've driven by the Chevy house here in P-Ville and drooled over the Camaros, Moogie. They currently have a BRIGHT yellow one on the lot...

    Aiiieee!

re: skirts and thangs and cars/trucks that are hard to get into... I used to go outside to watch TSMP alight from the Vette back in the day; t'was a sight that fired up the imagination, among other things. ;-)

  23. Glenn: I think GD has sold more F-16s to more operators than than Boeing has sold F-18s... period. That sez sumthin' about the two airframes, doesn't it?

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
