Today's Happy Hour Soundtrack and... Dinner

It was a Grateful Dead kinda afternoon...

Gone are the days when the ox fall down,
Take up the yoke and plow the fields around.
Gone are the days when the ladies said' "Please,
Gentle Jack Jones won't you come home to me."

Brown-eyed women and red grenadine,

The bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean.
Sound of the thunder with the rain pourin' down,
And it looks like the old man's gettin' on.
Ring a bell?  It does around here...

So we did Happy Hour and then adjourned to the great indoors to fix dinner.  A couple o' few days ago I went on about how I like those bag-dinners and we fixed one this evening.  Ever wonder how one cooks in an RV?  Wonder no more...

First we made some necessary adjustments so we could actually cook.  This is what the stove looks like when we're not cooking...

The first step is relocate the cigar stash and other crap to the bathroom, like so:

One gets double-duty from a lot o' things in an RV; this is auxiliary and temporary storage.  So then we began to throw dinner together.

Heating up the frying pan.  The instructions say to use a non-stick frying pan but a light coat of olive oil in a standard skillet does the trick, too.

Meanwhile, we were defrosting a handful of shrimp to augment the six teeny-tiny shrimp included in the bag.

In progress.

And then dinner is served:  Bertolli's Shrimp, Asparagus, and Penne in a bag; two slices o' bread; and a bowl of red grapefruit... all washed down with a vintage Dr. Pepper.  This will be followed by After Dinner Whiskey Hour, after I'm done watching this really cool CNBC teevee show on BMWs.

  1. If I posted a picture of my oven top several people would go ewwwww!

Anyway, I find 409 and a scrub spounge seems to do the trick every six months or so...

  2. Truly a gentleman's repast, and elegantly presented.

    Also, not as clean....

I have recently discovered Simple Green for cleaning....everything. Spray it on a stovetop, wipe it off. Spray it on a sink, and wipe it off along with the soap scum. It takes minutes, and consequently gets done a lot more often.

Floors and toilets, too. The bachelor's companion.

  3. Not: You didn't look to closely at those pics, didja? I thought about NOT posting them.

Rob: I use Windex for everything, except brushing my teeth. Thanks for the kind words.

  4. That looks all too familiar, except for that really really old cup you're using to store your keys in... I've never seen that in these parts. It's been awhile since commemorative Stanley Cup gear has been for sale locally.

  5. I'd say sumthin' like "good luck this year, marc"... but that would mean you'd win the Cup and we wouldn't, speakin' as a fan when I use variations on the Royal We. So: you're doomed to continue sufferin'. Assuming The Hockey Gods smile upon Dee-troit.

  7. Try this...

    Fresh shrimp, cleaned and de-veined....

Make a fresh scampi sauté (shallot, garlic, olive oil)....

    Sauté shrimp until done....

Add lemon juice, honey, and ground ginger to taste...

    Enjoy....:-)

  8. Moogie: That cutting board has been with me for over 20 years, believe it or don't.

Anon: Fresh shrimp? Shallots? In P-Ville? Dream ON!
