Today's Happy Hour Soundtrack

That would be #84 on the list in the post below.  Yes, we HAVE been livin' in the past today and the past ain't such a bad place to be, as long as one has the Tube of You and tunes like this.  We're working our way through our favorites and a surprising number of these tunes are available just for the searchin'.  We do happy smileys technology!

Dang.  This is the sorta stuff that prompts ya to make drunken phone calls in the wee small hours to people who don't want to hear from you ever again, not that we've ever done that sorta thang.  Heh.  I'm glad it's early afternoon and we're only on our second beer.  This could prove to be embarrassing.

  1. Hmmmm, drinking and dialing. Been there, the reception is never quite as good as imagined!

  2. The funniest episode of "drinkin' & dialin'" I ever lived thru was when my Best Man from my second marriage and I were gettin' sloppy drunk one night in the way-back and were listenin' to Linda Ronstadt. He decided we should call her and spent at LEAST an hour on the phone with directory assistance tryin' to get her number. This is, of course, a CLASSIC case of "ya hadda been there," but it was a HOOT, lemmee tell ya. I think we finally wound up callin' our respective girl friends, who were a LOT more accessible. ;-)

  3. ..seems like a mighty long time...

The simplicity of the song, the layed-back band, and just let her get her voice on the tape make this a wonderful performance.

It's also a southern expression for me. That's the image it pulls into my head, was the way southern girls said "mighty long time" in the early 70's.

Now they say - oops, now they don't say crap, just text you to buy them some chicken on the way home - as if their thighs need to grow any larger!

  4. Buck, I hope you were done and over Happy Hour by the time the Red Wings played their game today. I am sure you had plenty to drink afterward and none of it would have been for happy reasons. Good game though, Love those Flyers!!

    BT: Jimmy T sends.

  5. Yeah, Jimmy, ya gotta give a team that's lost three of its last four a LOT of love. They need it. And congrats! Your first win in Dee-troit in 22 years! ;-)

Anon: I did a few turns around the high school gym to this song. With Roxie.

  6. Drinkin' and dialin' is more fun if both parties have been drinking. Still it can be pretty funny when on the receiving end.

  7. Dude, I miss the Wurlitzer. Seriously. As to your previous post, I'm gonna check that out. Sounds interesting.

And, TCU surprised the crud out of me. Even being the SEC homer that I am, I thought Wisconsin was extremely worthy of their ranking, could match up well with any SEC team, and would beat the Frogs handily.

Shows ya' what I know. I won't go there concerning what 'Bama, & MS State did, though. Oh, I went there, didn't I? Sigh...

BTW, I forgot to congratulate on the ND win. They've come a long way in a short time, indeed.

Drinking and dialing is almost as dangerous as drinkin' and bloggin'. Maybe more so...or so I understand.

  8. Oh, one other thing. On your list in the previous post, I see that 51. Still, Bill Anderson is not stricken.

Even though I grew up in a country music household, with the Opry & Hee Haw, Bill Anderson always gave me the creeps. I was scared of him as a little kid. I met him one time, and was frightened...I kinda' ran away like some kids do when they see Santa Clause at the store.

  9. Drinkin' and dialin' is more fun if both parties have been drinking.

AND if both parties are still on good terms. ;-)

Nah, drinkin' and bloggin' is MUCH more dangerous, coz the innertubes are FOREVER. You can deny phone calls, or at least their contents.

Re: Bill Anderson. I s'pose I should google him, no? Coz there's nuthin' creepy in his bio on The Wiki.

  10. Buck, he's known as "Whispering Bill." Maybe that's what freaked me out as a child. The dude looked like he was talking to us kids, but no words were coming out of his mouth.

I still have nightmares about it.

Plus, he opened up a big restaurant chain later on called "Po' Folks."

We had one here in Bossier. And, I still have nightmares.

  11. I saw his nickname in The Wiki's bio but didn't make the connection.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
