Kinda Cool

But ya really hadda be there.  Or here.  Whatevah.

Just a few minutes ago... people safely ensconced in pressurized aluminum tubes over The High Plains of New Mexico on their way to La-La Land.  Must be nice... for a weekend or so.

  2. Ah, but the camera captures such a pale shadow of reality. Still and even: Thanks!

  3. We get to see the airliners to and from Caribbean to SFO and such. Plus there is a lot of Mexico to SFO and other points north.
And then there are the Falcons, Thunderbolt IIs and Raptors over Eddie's Airplane Patch in The Mojave Desert.

  4. That's a great shot.

I get claustrophic in Cali. Too many people. Not enough cows. No wind.

    It's unnatural!

  5. Glenn: I have fond memories of watching the aircraft come and go at Edwards.

Thimbelle: I hear ya about CA. I've spent about ten years of my life (off and on) out there and it was fun... at the time. I don't think I could go back. Thanks for the kind words!

  6. Interestingly, the États-Unis put all their money on asphalt and concrete (Arab oil based), and has pretty much abandoned rail.

Airlines saw their glory years before deregulation. I'm a capitalist in most things, but I am a socialist when it comes to public service.

My transportation speech would be along the lines of: international flights would be unregulated, but national flights would be regulated by a board. One for trains, one for trucks, one for ships, and one for aircraft.

Capitalism doesn't have an input variable for "the nations good." It is a borg. The people running the Airlines will do whatever it takes to make money.

The recent program about the Singapore company in Mobile, Alabama doing maintenance work for the airlines, shows how far they are going to cut corners. They have hundreds of unlicensed mechanics for every licensed one.

Big deal, you say? Well, add to that, that they don't speak or read English (you know the repair checklist)...

Smoking holes, that's what is ahead for 2011. We don't need Muslims to kill each other, we only need capitalists and a willing Congress.

  7. The recent program about the Singapore company in Mobile, Alabama...

Frontline. I saw it and it WAS scary, especially the FAA woman, who was about as clue-free as it gets.

Capitalism is good as long as there's effective oversight and regulation. The trick is to regulate effectively, without OVERregulating. We already have much of what you recommend, l'avion, in the form of the ICC, DoT, and the FAA.

  8. Yes, I agree about the FAA woman. I didn't write her name down, but she is a Judy Doll. Pull the string and she says what was pre-programmed.

I'm sure the Singapore company CEO is a Muslim...

We may have reached the final point where only 9mm at close range is the only way to change Congress.

  9. I'm glad ya got my drift about the FAA chief, l'avion. I realized there were TWO FAA women interviewed on the program; the inspector-woman "got it," the administrator clearly didn't.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
